Bye for Murray in Barcelona
« on: April 25, 2008, 05:38:39 PM »
Andy Murray will be participating in the Open Sabadell Atlantico next week as a wildcard entry, seeded seventh.
The British number one exited the Monte Carlo Masters on Thursday in tame fashion at the hands of Novak Djokovic, and it seems that Murray wants more competitive matchplay on clay, before departing for Rome the week after.
Update:
Andy Murray will take on either Mario Ancic or Mischa Zverev in round 2.
R2 > Ancic or Zverev
R3 > Almagro (expected)
QF > Blake (expected)
SF > Nadal (expected)
F > Ferrer (expected)

Very good decision
Hopefully he can do reasonably well here and get a good run at the Masters the week after!

I take it he wasn't meant to be playing this one?

That's the 4th time you've said that to Amy in about a week. And she, by far, doesn't ask the stupidest questions. You have, in the past, asked for examples of when you deliberately pick on her for an argument. Well here you have it. Stop being so blooming patronising for once!
Rant over. Think this is a good thing, if even just for a bit of practice and confidence building. Even though he probably won't gain a huge amount, if anything point-wise it's a good replacement for Valencia. And he does like being in Barca. Very good plan indeed!

Ancic in r2
« Reply #15 on: April 27, 2008, 11:54:03 AM »
Andy's 5th bad draw of the year: Tsonga round 1 Aus, Haase r1 Rotterdam, Ancic r2 Miami, Djokovic r3 Valencia and now faces Ancic again in r2 this week.
Is this a setup?

Haase was not a bad draw. Haase was a sh*t match by andy.
He also had chances to beat Tsonga, although i'll admit, that was probably the worst player he could get. Ancic is more than beatable if Andy shows up.
As for Djoko in R3 last week, well that's Andy's own fault for letting his ranking slip. He still would have lost to any of the other top 4 anyway the way he was playing.

Well Haase & Tsonga are 2 of the biggest hitters in the game, all to whom Andy is particularly vurnerable, Djokovic is outright Andy's worst opponent (his record aginst him is uncomparable to those against any other player) and if you look at this week's draw (and in Miami), Ancic is also by far the worst player for Andy to come across (he's a former top 10 player).

Haase is sh*t. Murray should have destroyed him in Rotterdam. And so what if Ancic is a former top 10 player. He's more than beatable with his current form. Murray should be making the SF's here if he's playing to what he is capable off. Sure it's a tough draw, personally I'm more worried about Almagro in R3, but he should still be able to beat him.
