Bye for Murray in Miami
« on: March 24, 2008, 08:52:14 PM »
Andy Murray has once again been given a bye in to round two at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
In the second round he either faces Mario Ancic, whom he beat in the final of Marseille, or Gilles Simon.
If Andy were to reach round three he could possibly face Argentine and eighteenth seed Juan Monaco. Nikolay Davydenko may lay in wait in the fourth round if they both manage to reach that far. Murray will be hoping to avenge the result of their last match in Dubai in which Davydenko advanced. If Murray is fortunate enough to to reach as far as the quarter-final he could play Spaniard David Ferrer.
The rest of Murray's draw is as follows:
R1 > BYE
R2 > Ancic or Simon
R3 > Monaco, Volandri or Qualifier
R4 > Davydenko (expected)
QF > Ferrer (expected)

A bye always welcome with Murray's current form. Fairly decent draw by the looks of it.

I think if he makes it past Ancic, he'll make it to the semis.

Other than Ancic, a pretty decent draw. I'm quite pleased with that. Reallistically, he should be aiming for the Semis at least. With a below par Fed, its not guaranteed, he'll make it that far.

I don't think he was seeded for Madrid/Paris last year so it shouldn't matter. With Andy he nomally plays better against the better players so I don't see missing out on a seeding as a problem

This is a peach of a draw. For a Masters he couldn't ask for any better. Of the top 4 for R4 to get Davy is a treat. And to be in the opposite half to the on form player of the moment is fab. Fed for the semis isn't bad at all either. And Ferrer from the 5-8's is not too shabby either!
I'm slightly concerned about Ancic. He's always gonna be a tricky prospect but Andy didn't seem to have
too
much trouble with him at the beginning of the year. I know I've been lady optimist on here for the last week but I really fancy Andy for the final here. Just hope he bothers to turn up on a regular basis. Or at least let's hope his first serve does!

I agree with ljsmall and Sir Panda that Ancic is the biggest danger on the way to the semi (and maybe on the way to the Final, seeing as how well Andy has coped with Federer). It'll therefore be an interesting R2 for us - as an added nailbiter, for those not so familiar with ranking system, if Andy loses his first match, he will only be awarded Round 1 points, despite the bye... so lots at stake.

Its only a difference of 15 points and cannot possibly affect his ranking this week.

It actually could slightly, but its extremely unlikely to. And even if it does, in the long run, how much is 15 points already?

The difference between Shanghai and not Shanghai? Cause that's what it was last year...
