Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash has expressed
his disappointment at Andy Murray's controversial decision to withdraw from Great Britain's Davis Cup team earlier this month.
The British number one cited a recurring knee problem and the difficulty of changing surfaces twice in as many weeks as the primary reason for his unexpected withdrawal prior to facing Argentina in Buenos Aires. However, Cash believes the experience of playing in such an intimidating atmosphere could have been extremely valuable in Murray's quest to win grand slam titles.
John Lloyd was right - the more you go out there and play, the more you get out of it.
It's different playing away from home, against Croatia, Serbia and the like. That takes toughness and you need that to be a threat at the Grand Slams
The Aussie also voiced concerns on the Scot's newly assembled team of coaches and experts, even though Murray already has two ATP titles to his name so far in 2008.
You have to have some experience to be able to manage that team.
If you've got three weeks off here, then you need someone to manage that. It's too easy to go and say 'I'm tired today' or whatever.
I'm not saying he's like that but you need someone experienced to be pushing you.
