Clay season disaster
« on: May 07, 2008, 07:35:52 PM »
I'd say a total disaster, ad no sign of improvement.

It's okay, I've taken balls to the face before.

Yes it has but he has little experience on the surface so in relative terms not such a disaster.

No experience? He spent over 2 years playing on very little else than clay.

Anyway, clay doesn't matter. They only keep it in the game so Spainish, Italian and maybe a few Argentinians have a chance of winning something

He should be doing better. Hopefully he retires and British tennis can just end.

No. It's just a learning experience. He gets better with every match. The way he played towards the end of the match was really impressive. He just lost his focus. He doesn't seem confident in finishing points on clay and that's his biggest problem. I think next week he will maybe be a bit better, if not, then he will at least win a few rounds at RG. I see him making 3rd or 4th round there as long as he doesn't get a terrible draw.

I love how your attitude will almost certainly change when he's successful.

I think if his serve was upto scratch, he would have won. How many times does Murray lose his serve 0-40 or because every serve he hits is his second serve. He doesnt get any cheap points, not like he did before and for him not to serve an ace, shows how bad it was yesterday. In the end, it's his return game that make his serve points won look good when they could just be average. He hit the net alot yesterday and we should accept that more errors are going to come. It shows he is trying to be aggressive, hitting hard and looking for the lines instead of looping the ball over the net. It takes time to adjust his mentality of being aggressive when he naturaly looks to play safe. I myself get pissed off when he plays safe, but if you watch his two matches im Rome, he is hitting the ball harder and flatter, its easier to accept if he loses. He needs to start from the very first shot and the rest will follow.

There have been a few signs of improvement, but
frankly
yes - a bit of a disaster.
It's difficult to see how he could have done much worse in terms of results ...
