Well the start of the season looked really good for Man City then the wheels came off Whistle
It's like Andy doing a biography before he's even peaked LOL

Certainly not a disaster. Just one really bad tournament, in Barcelona, after which he himself admitted he wasn't up for it properly. Otherwise, he reached the last 16 in Monte Carlo - and for once i agree with Chris (!!!), it cannot be a disaster if he reaches where he is seeded to reach - and lost to the best player in the world on current form. He then reached the last 32 in Rome, which, true, is a round less then his seeding, but that cannot be termed a disaster, especially since he lost to the eventual finalist. And now this week, he's reached the last 16, and even if he loses to Nadal, who's probably the best clay courter ever, it definitely won't be a disaster.

Good posting!

Would we still be saying the same thing if he'd just not played Barca like he'd planned?

I was actually just calculating it, and Andy seems to be hovering just in the top 20 when results of the last two months - the clay season - are taken into account. Would you call that 'abject failure'? Probably not. But, its certainly not brilliant.

Failure compared to last year? No. Failure compared to Murray's overall standard of tennis? Yes.

Two years ago was too early. Last year he was injured. So for a first proper season, to have had the 20th best clay court season in the world is not too bad...

The only thing more disastrous than Andy's clay season is my lack of updating the Murray-o-meter.

I think disaster is a very stong word. It's on a scale which also includes very bad, bad, okish, satisfactory, good, very good, fabulous! And I don't think he's had a disasterous season, but it's definitely to the left of satisfactory...

Yeah, count the heads.

Re: Clay season disaster « Reply #86 on: June 05, 2008, 01:37:12 PM »

Agreed - the worst you can say about it now is that it's been disappointing, unsatisfactory.
Any worse really would have been slipping towards "bad", though.

Think It's definitely been below our expectations, but I suppose fans obviously have quite high expectations.

I think objectively it's very below our expectations as well.
