Cloverfield « on: February 03, 2008, 12:17:42 AM »

Cloverfield. Fantastic movie! Never have I seen a thriller like this - it's very unique. It really gets you immersed in their world mainly due to the clever use of the personal camera style filming. And just in case you're concerned of getting sick - I suffer from travel sickness and I had no problem. I went into this thinking it would be an enjoyable thriller with a modest budget but I was really impressed with the action scenes.

It took me about 30mins after walking out the cinema for me to quite get over it, I still felt like I was in the movie.

8.50/10 - a must see! Cate also thought it was good and she's very hard to please with these types of movies.

Edit by MarkSplit from film thread - deserves its own thread I think.

My son went to see it last week and really enjoyed it - heard that there's a sequel already in the pipeline.

Yes and from a recent interview, it seems the sequel won't be filmed in the same video cam style. This could therefore mean we see things from the POV of the government which would include a lot of military action scenes or maybe it could be some sort of prequel showing how the monster came about, especially if it's man made.

Also there is a secret ending after the end credits, which is:

Spoiler:
Radio chatter that says "Help Us" and when played in reverse says "It's Still Alive". This may have been put there to suggest the monster is still alive and that Beth and Rob survived. Also it leaves open the possibility of a sequel.

Think Ah, this makes sense as to what my son said.  My daughters want to see this but I'm still traumatized from seeing I AM LEGEND lol

It's not a scary film, there's like two scary parts and they are not the type that make you jump.

Mark, I do comedy and I do PG films, that's what I like. Very Happy  I've seen adverts for this film, and apart from me constantly loosing focus on what's happening, it's at night - dark places!  Jez, I scared myself silly walking to the bed from the bathroom in the dark after I'd seen I am legend lol

I'm going to see Death at a Funeral tomorrow - heard that is funny tv

I Am Legend was jumpy scary though, Cloverfield was more just drama and action. Cate's very sensitive to scary movies and she was fine through it Smile

There's a bit in it that you think is going to be really scary - you're just waiting to jump out of your seat - but they deliberately filmed it so it wasn't a jumpy moment which I greatly appreciated Smile
