I was optimistic they might have gassed Donna ...
... but it was not to be.

P'raps Rose will assassinate her - trial by combat, or by saffeast accent.

And doesn't she look like Sandra!

I was wondering if the director (Alice Troughton) was Pat Troughton's daughter as well, Think, but haven't managed to find out ... but I hear David's back for another appearance later this series.

Have to admit, I thought the episode was a bit rubbish.
Getting fed up of the Doctor as angst-ridden demigod and Donna's still carp (lol), but liked the fact the war had only been going on a few days.

Russell T Davies to step down. Frown

Glad he'll still be there for next years specials. He been brilliant at what he's done with it so far. goodjob

Although I think his replacement, Steven Moffat, will live up to the high standards already set. Smile

Im ok with RTD stepping down...cause Moffat is amazing! He always delivers the best eps each season.

yay

Well, he did a great job of reviving DW, but on balance, I think RTD has delivered some of the worst scripts so far including all the christmas specials, so I'd have preferred a handover before the 2009 specials.

He's well past his sell by date - putting a jazzy swing into the title music is always a desperate ploy by someone running out of real ideas (if you recall, JNT did the same). Like getting novelty or personality companions (Kylie, Caffrin Tate - why cast people who bring audience baggage with them?).
Same companions, same stereotype characters, same morality, same plot twists, same clunky dialogue, same messianic undertones, same look and feel to most episodes - I'd have said this season is easily the weakest of the new run. It feels like round and round the treadmill - nope, I'm glad to see him go.

And of the current crop, I think Moffat's the strongest contender. I'd have rather had someone with more mainstream and more production experience, though. He's a bit too much of a fan ... I just hope the Beeb are sufficiently switched on to swap him out after three years or so as well.

I'm not sure about RTD "stepping down", by the way. P'raps he was pushed ...

Hoorah!

I've got more used to her over the last few eps, but I still don't like the cockney urban street-chic dialogue they keep giving her.
More running around and screaming, please lol

As long as they don't comment on the running around and screaming, in a sort of post-modern self-referential look-at-us-we're-clever sort of a way ... lmao

WARNING SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT

ithink it was just a low budget filler before the big budget finale episodes.  Must have  been hard for the actress to keep synching everyones lines with all the same inflections it was well acted.

On the bright side virtually no Donna she would have ruined that episode it was very claustophic and an interesting study of how people change personalities under pressure and will do things totally against nature like kill etc unless all their weird behavier was caused by the alien.

Added nothing to the series and no continuation other than a quick flash of Rose on one of the screens behind the doctor just before it all went wrong.  unless the alien draining the doctor weakens him which could be why he seems to be dead in the VT at the end of the episode
