Points Distribution

1st - Josh - 27 (10)
2nd - netcord - 26 (8)
3rd - rafa - 24 (6)
4th - Allan - 24 (5)
5th - top_spin - 24 (4)*
6th - Yamor - 24 (3)*
7th - dentie - 22 (2)
8th - Sir Panda - 21 (1)

*May change depending on what the ruling was. Think EDIT: There wasn't one offically decided. unsure

Correct.

But the one which has always been used was that if we both got zero points the week before, it goes to the week before that, and thats what was used when this scenario happened a couple of weeks ago. No rule change was made...

boll**ks.

Whatever happened to the rules on ties?

It used to say "whoever performed better the week before gets the points"

Anyway, my point is top_spin scored more points last week than Yamor (21-17 i think...) so she gets the higher points. The fact that wasn't good enough for some ACTUAL points is irrelevant.

I'm not saying i don't agree with you, Neil, the opposite, i actually agree the rules should be changed. However, the fact is, this happened a few weeks ago, and they used the system of going back to the week before. I'm all for changing the rules, but they haven't been changed yet, so I should be higher. What you say that the rules don't state clearly what to do is irrelevant, since past practise was always to work with the previous week, so that was obviously the accepted understanding of the rule.
Change the rule if you want, but it can only apply from next week on.

Well my taking of "performed better the week before" meant just that. Not the points distribution, but what your final score was. If it's been done differently then 1) that's wrong and 2) I never knew.

So sorry, I don't agree that just because someone made this "mistake" previously, they should make it again because that's what happened before. Rubbish.

Well, by the Movistar Open it happened with Alex and Dana. It was discussed at the time, in the rules thread, i think, and no change was made. In fact, if i remember correctly, one of the organisers noted at the time that it had always been done that way.

So it did,

This should be changed to Dana getting the higher points as at the Australian Open they scored...

dentie - 52

invisibleman18 - 46

The fact it "has always been done this way" is down to LAZINESS and nothing else. By this I mean the organisers looking at the Weekly Leaderboards and not making the frankly small effort of looking at the last matchday thread of the last tournament. It could also be an oversight in the rules. Still, should be changed.

Sorry, maybe a tad harsh. It's more likely that it was never decided in the intial rules and one person made up their mind and the rest went with it.

But if it could be included now that would be awesome.

In the result of a tie, the player who scored better the previous week will get the higher number of points. In the event this is still tied, it will go back to the previous week.

Yes, it should be changed, but not retrospectively. I actually think the whole rule should be scrapped, and introduce a new rule, e.g. most correct predictions, but its probably too hard for the organisers.

It's not that hard to count a maximum of 5 matches a day.

It would work out, in a grand slam, going through 13 matchday threads, most with 5 matches, and adding it up for each player. Quite time consuming.

They could just keep a record as they go along.  Some sort of running total on an Excel sheet , and if they're are looking at every pick anyway, it wouldn't take that much longer to just make a note of how many correct winners each person got.

You mean within the same tournament? Well yeah, that could be done, and yes it is I suppose the most accurate way of splitting a tie... but it is extra work.

It wouldn't be correct winners, but EXACT results anyway no Josh?

I suppose the best way of doing it would be an exact thing in brackets? I.e. nkp2- 20 (7)

SO say Player A gets 5 points with 2 exact matches and 1 other, and player B gets 5 matches right but all wrong sets, so also 5 points. It looks like...

A - 5 (2)
b - 5 (0) And A gets the points at the end of the week.

We had that system for about 4/5 months at the start... it's absolutely ridiculous.

Why, because it takes so long to calculate or what?

Each matchday thread initially had 10+ matches to predict so that could have been a factor but I remember sharing the job with Andrew every Sunday, it took f**king forever. But what ever the public want Smile

Well I don't mind doing it like I suggested, because it can be easily done as you update the scores daily like I demonstrated with player A and B. Smile

If this idea does happen, then i'd suggest that in the quite likely scenario of two or more people being level on points and correct predictions, then it should go by who managed to earn most points in a single day. If thats equal, then go by their second best day etc etc. This system is similar to the ATP ranking system.

But surely that would take longer to work out than just having the number of winners in brackets??
