Roger Federer has proven himself to be a sore loser after his defeat to Andy Murray on Monday, by attacking the Scot's game.

I don’t think he has changed his game a whole lot since the first time I played him and I really thought he would have done. He is going to have to grind it very hard in the next few years if he is going to play this way.

He stands way behind the court. You have to do a lot of running and he tends to wait for the mistakes of his opponent. I gave him the mistakes today but overall in a 15-year career you want to look to win a point more often rather than wait for the other guy to miss. Who knows he might surprise us all.

Murray responds to Federer's critism
You do different things against different players.

You go and watch my match against Rafael Nadal at the 2007 Australian Open, and I was playing pretty close to the baseline in that match and taking a lot of risks because I think that's the right way to play against him.

Against Federer I don't think that's the right way to play. I'm not going to play that sort of game against someone that defends as well as Federer does.

My serve is clearly much better than it was two years ago. I feel quicker and stronger around the court. Mentally I feel like I'm better.

But there are still some things in my game that I want to improve and it does take some time to put them into the match court. I feel like I've started to do that this year.

I knew he wouldn't take it on the chin.  He shows his true colours whenever he doesn't get it all his own way.  I'd suspected that Federer wasn't the class act the media would have us believe.  When he asked for Hawkeye to be turned off during the Wimbledon final, it confirmed to me what an arrogant, sore loser he really is.

yes He's a sore loser, luckily we don't have to put up with that side of him much, but this might change.

I think so too.  Murray was nowhere near as passive today, unlike against Tsonga and Haase.  He ripped a few massive forehands.  I would still love to see him come into the net more, whether it be off the serve or setting the point up for an approach.  He is fantastic at the net.  He should utilise that side of his game more.

Actually this really annoys me...who watched the match here? Was it more Fed playing badly or did Andy actually play really well? Cause if he played well then Fed should definitely give him the credit he deserves rather than being just a bad loser..

Fed played well (though he slipped a bit towards the end), Andy played brilliantly. One of the best matches I've watched in a while...

Honestly, Andy played really well. I mean Federer definetly wasn't 100% but Andy deserves credit, without any exceptions.

Fed was playing excellent for most of the match.  He only really had a dip in the 3rd set.  Put it this way, a poor Federer would have lost in straight sets, quite comfortably.  That's how well Andy played

I just want to paint a balanced picture for those who didnt see it...

Murray played pretty well, but to be honest Ive yet to see Murray play top class attacking tennis other than when Nadal brings it out of him.

Murray did indeed defend deep behind the baseline, but where Fed says he waited for mistakes i'd suggest he drew those mistakes out of Fed. Murray also came up with some top drawer winners at the right moments, and served amazingly well - especially on the key points. I felt that Federer did however come up with the more amazing shots on occasions.

It was an intelligent and lethal game of tennis from Murray's point of view, he did what he needed to pick off his opponent, remaining unbelievably calm when he went a set down. It was a high quality 1st round match, but it still only had the intensity of a 1st round match.

So Federer's comments arent completely untrue but he makes it sound like Murray was 'cheating' in some way, or got lucky, or that Fed gave it to him which is very petulant. Murray had a gameplan today, he made choices - not to come in and give Fed a target; to serve and play to federer's slightly inferior backhand; to defend deep when neccesary, etc. Federer is obviously frustrated that Murray the right tactics and temperament to get the better of him.

Murray was very good today, Fed played pretty well, hit some sublime shots, probably the better shot maker of the two, but Murray was FAR more consistent. And yeah, he did tail off towards the end, just missing shots he'd normally get. But he was by no means playing badly. Playing anyone else on a good day he would have won. Murray was that good.

Murray was that good today. I think it's a bit unfair to say he sat back and waited for mistakes because in loads of the rally's the last 3 or four shots would all have been winners against anyone else.

Andy hit the ball so well and so cleverly he outfoxed Federer.

And maybe Fed's just a little frightened people will start to believe they can beat him. A little bit of Sports psychology in those quotations. Beaten by Djoko then beaten by Murray, he's gotta be scared. The Gasquet's and Tsonga's of this world'll be right at his heels.

Federer played an excellent first set but was still a bit lucky to win it. but as the match went on he made more mistakes especially in 3rd set.  So he would argue Andy did nothing to win and just waited for the mistakes.  However a lot of those mistakes where on the backhand from a Murray forehand. So though they may appear unforced errors as is Andys way he simply found where his opponent was not at his best on the day and punished him for it.
