Yep, I knew it all along. So far for him being 'the most humble player on tour'. yuk

Fed's also talking pash. When Andy played Nadal he came to the net loads, so he can change his game to suit. He's also a great volleyer but Fed's defence is too good to attack so fair play for working out how to beat the best in
the world.

I think this is a case of bloody journos again - he was asked to compare the style probably, and so he did - headline that follows: suddenly he attacks - it doesn't mention they asked him to.

It's like Woz recently with Apple, journos ask him his opinion about new products. He says he likes them... then possible improvements: next thing you know 'Woz slams iPhone'.

It's  called cheap headline grabbing journalism.

Murray responds:

You do different things against different players.

You go and watch my match against Rafael Nadal at the 2007 Australian Open, and I was playing pretty close to the baseline in that match and taking a lot of risks because I think that's the right way to play against him.

Against Federer I don't think that's the right way to play. I'm not going to play that sort of game against someone that defends as well as Federer does.

My serve is clearly much better than it was two years ago. I feel quicker and stronger around the court. Mentally I feel like I'm better.

But there are still some things in my game that I want to improve and it does take some time to put them into the match court. I feel like I've started to do that this year.

Well I think there is one glaringly obvious difference in Andys game since the first time he played Fed that Roger doesn't seem it have picked up on yet, he beats him now.  w00t

Frankly, if Andy's found a strategy and style which beats Fed then why would he change it?

As others have pointed out, including Andy, he plays differently against different people.

Perhaps Fed's getting senile as well as slower?
Or perhaps he just wants to steal the headline, despite losing ... lmao lmao lmao

It's irrelevant whether he was asked or not.  It was still sour grapes.  If he was asked to compare styles, he should compare styles.  Instead he flat out talked nonsense by saying that Murray's game hasn't progressed.  That is being a sore loser, not objectively assessing the game of his opponent.

It's not the first time that Federer has criticised his opponent after a loss, so it's not like this was a a one off.  No one, and I mean no one, can seriously say that Murray has not progressed since 2005.

In terms of how passive Murray can be, Federer had a legitimate point in terms of how Murray generally plays.  Andy wasn't passive against Federer, though.  If I recall, Andy hit more winners than Fed.

It was sour grapes.  There's no ifs or buts.  Fed acted like a sore loser and, quite frankly, it happens too often.  It's easy to be a class act when you're winning.

Or in football terms, Federer only sings when he's winning.

Yeah this is getting pretty lame. Federer seems only graceful when he wins but is a twat when he loses. He needs to take a few lessons from Nadal.

I wouldn't say Murray was the perfect example of a graceful loser, Nadal is probably the best example on tour at the moment.

Definately. But he's always respectful of his opponent in both victory and defeat.

Its not that big a deal, I actually heard Fed say it.  It showed you the interview after the Djokovic match and it seemed very mellow.  The commentators did not even mention it, they just said it was interesting to hear from both of them.  One of the commentators said Fed was refreshingly honest.  I know if we read what he said it sounds harsh, but hearing him, its completely different.

I still think it sounded a little bitter. But you're right. Not as huge. Although that was the first time my Dad had seen it and he had the 'woah' reaction...

Federer is obviously not  a happy bunny. And I would guess that Andy will just be laughing to himself, he has won on both fronts here. And must be particularly pleased with himself he just needs to turn this into realranking points. So no relaxing
