Might get 30-40 members online at once maybe? Maybe 50-60 guests. If he wins, we might get a new record for visitors
I've wondered if all the guests listed are entirely legit?

Why not? Loads of random people look at forums. I know I used to look at MTF alot for info and I only joined recently. Bound to be other people looking at the site at some point.

It just intrigues me the way it 'rolls over' with 'guests' viewing 'current' topics as well as topics which are very old. Also, if you click on something a guest is viewing and then go back to see if that same guest is viewing that same topic, they never are. Isn't that a bit odd?
Ah, but some guests can be bots. Internet viruses and the like. They view random topics and try and post/advertise. That's why they can't post without an account in most topics and why you need to prove you are human.

No, i mean, how do you know the guys not on the same topic. In fact, chris is definitely wrong - if you look you'll see guest are spread evenly over the full half hour shown, that means they're not constantly moving topics.

I understand that ........ but I have never been able to find the same guest on the same topic when I go back and click on it. Never. Try it and see what I mean.
Bear in mind, the list updates constantly and the guests move up and down the list. So in fact, I've seen plenty of guests on the same topic. I just did it there. Top of the list, Guest viewing "Murray v Roddick". I went back a minute later and 6 down, Guest viewing "Murray v Roddick". That will either be the same bot, or the same real person. The list does not distinguish between Guests, so it's impossible to say what one guest is/was viewing 2 minutes before.

Well, bear in mind also, that if a guest (or member for that matter) changes topic, then it will now show the NEW topic they are looking at. Hence why it is impossible to follow that guest around as you have no idea which one they are. Some "Guests" will be hidden members as well. So they are likely to move about a lot. Not many people will stay in a topic for more than 30-60 seconds at the most.
I.e. It does not register EVERY movement every IP address makes, only the most recent one from that IP. Hope that makes sense.

I can't try that out on my phone, but if its true then there's some bug in the system. I think the conclusion you've drawn is definitely wrong.

Chris, i don't know how many times you've tried it, but it can't be true most of the time, because there a plenty of quests low down on the list, which means they've been on the same topic for up to half an hour.

Maybe or maybe not .......... I got very curious about it all and have clicked on the topics many times to try and disprove what I am saying - you'd think one time, the guest would still be there, but they are not.
And you are wrong, because I just did it 3 times. I clicked on Murray v Nadal beside Yamor, went out of it, went back in to Who's Online and Yamor was still viewing this topic at the same time as listed. That will disappear the next time Yamor replies/changes topic. Then I did the same with myself. 22.12.37 I viewed "Who's Online" I then refreshed the page, and 3 guests had appeared above me and I was still listed as viewing Who's Online 20 seconds before that. IT should show each movement of each person, (member or guest) around the board as it happens. I THINK it only applies to viewing new topics, and replying. But not to refreshing a page.

I actually wondered if it was just a device to pull members into looking at old topics and therefore making new posts - I have certainly done that, and that is why I thought this is what it was all about. I agree there have to be some legit guests out there, but I suspect not all are.
Well like I said, there are currently 6 members online that are hidden, so 6 at least are them, and there are 15 members online at least anyway. So that provokes activity, and therefore attracts bots to advertise. They don't go to inactive sites, because there are no humans to advertise to. It's not a conspiracy, honest.

Yes I know, but I then did it with a guest just the same. The list updates by time, so if new people do something, then that guest moves down. Just refresh the list and you will see guest move down.
EDIT: Yamor, I can't be 100%. Does "Who's online" show what you are doing? Because I thought it was showing me as a guest, but I can't see me anymore.... so it must have been someone else. Not sure if it shows as guests/not at all. Or it might just not show what you are doing, since that is obvious.
EDIT: Ok, it shows me if I am unhidden, but not if I am hidden. So I was wrong, it only shows guests and unhidden members.

I know what you are saying, but I also know for a fact that it doesn't "disappear" 100% of the time. In fact it's a lot less than that.

The parts in bold are the same I think. Those two shots were taken, visiting different pages in between about 20 seconds apart. Guests are in the same topics.
