Re the PM to me from Mark, I cannot take credit for actually starting this topic - instead I was responding to ..............

Expect a Murraysworld full house tomorrow evening!! which Seany-Bhoy posted

Might get 30-40 members online at once maybe? Maybe 50-60 guests. If he wins, we might get a new record for visitors lol

I've wondered if all the guests listed are entirely legit?

Mod NoticeSplit posts from 'Murray vs Nadal'.

Why not? Loads of random people look at forums. I know I used to look at MTF alot for info and I only joined recently. Bound to be other people looking at the site at some point.

It just intrigues me the way it 'rolls over' with 'guests' viewing 'current' topics as well as topics which are very old.  Also, if you click on something a guest is viewing and then go back to see if that same guest is viewing that same topic, they never are.  Isn't that a bit odd?

Ah, but some guests can be bots. Internet viruses and the like. They view random topics and try and post/advertise. That's why they can't post without an account in most topics and why you need to prove you are human.

No, i mean, how do you know the guys not on the same topic. In fact, chris is definitely wrong - if you look you'll see guest are spread evenly over the full half hour shown, that means they're not constantly moving topics.

I understand that ........ but I have never been able to find the same guest on the same topic when I go back and click on it.  Never.  Try it and see what I mean.

Bear in mind, the list updates constantly and the guests move up and down the list. So in fact, I've seen plenty of guests on the same topic. I just did it there. Top of the list, Guest viewing "Murray v Roddick". I went back a minute later and 6 down, Guest viewing "Murray v Roddick". That will either be the same bot, or the same real person. The list does not distinguish between Guests, so it's impossible to say what one guest is/was viewing 2 minutes before.

Well, bear in mind also, that if a guest (or member for that matter) changes topic, then it will now show the NEW topic they are looking at. Hence why it is impossible to follow that guest around as you have no idea which one they are. Some "Guests" will be hidden members as well. So they are likely to move about a lot. Not many people will stay in a topic for more than 30-60 seconds at the most.

I.e. It does not register EVERY movement every IP address makes, only the most recent one from that IP. Hope that makes sense. Smile

I can't try that out on my phone, but if its true then there's some bug in the system. I think the conclusion you've drawn is definitely wrong.

Chris, i don't know how many times you've tried it, but it can't be true most of the time, because there a plenty of quests low down on the list, which means they've been on the same topic for up to half an hour.
