Game, set and cash for minted Murray
« on: October 30, 2005, 01:33:22 AM »
Source: Scotland on Sunday
Scotland on Sunday can reveal that the teenage star will sit down with his team of advisers and sift through "scores" of lucrative endorsements, ranging from video games to mobile phone covers.
Also on the table are book and DVD deals that are set to make the 18-year-old from Dunblane a millionaire by the time he reaches next year's Wimbledon.
Murray's agent, Sian Masterton, said:
Andy has spent the last few months concentrating on his tennis but, after Bratislava, he is going to look at the deals that are best for him. He is at a crucial stage of his career right now and we have had scores of approaches from companies. There is interest from all angles: mobile phone games and mobile phone skins, video games, as well as books and DVDs. There are also more straightforward offers from companies.
After going out to the world number 17, Fernando Gonzalez, in the quarter-finals of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors Open championship on Friday, Murray will travel to Slovakia for a Challenge Tour event in Bratislava.

So does that confirm that he is playing in Bratislava right?

Yes no don't know...
Saw this on another site:
Quote
He said that he needed to discuss with his coach whether he would play in Bratislava. At the moment he said that he would probably take the rest of 2005 off, not because he is physically or mentally tired but because he thinks he needs to work on some important aspects of his game and make sure he is ready mentally for the 2006 season.
Nobody seems to know for definite.

couple of articles from the weekend papers...well ok just the telegraph actually...
not really sure the point that this one makes in the second paragraph is entirely necessary.....
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml;jsessi...orm30.xml&sSheet=/sport/2005/10/30/ixtenn.html
good one here about public expectations though
and about the gonzalez match and what gonzo thinks of mr murray....

I wondered how long it would take before that was mentioned. The good old British media.... they just can't help themselves, can they?

i know, the point is, they've been doing it for the last six months. obviously at the beginning it was part of introducing andy to the public; unfortunately where he's from is clearly going to raise eyebrows and interest.
but now, and especially in that article, its just completely gratuitous - there was no need at all for that comparison, which is also quite frankly insulting to tim and anyone who doesn't go to state school.....

I know Eira, it's ignorant, upsetting and in very bad taste.

lol even the times has picked up on that bit of somewhat shoddy reporting -
"There has been some spiteful reporting since Henman’s defeat by Murray. One article wondered if “Oxfordshire prep schools are less effective at producing winners than Scottish state schools”. The author’s argument is undermined because Henman attended school in Surrey as part of one of the most imaginative initiatives to unearth British tennis players launched in this country. Who could argue that he turned out a wrong’un?"
well done Times
always good for a bit of inter-paper WAR!!

Shallowville is it?
Haven't read the times since 1993 (apart from at college, where they didn't have the Telegraph), but yesterday I saw a copy of the Funday Times for the first time in all these years.
