Great "Brit" Murray « on: July 02, 2008, 12:38:02 PM »

I see Andy Murray pictured on the front page of the Sun flying the Union Flag. Why is it every Scot that goes to London sells out there country and people and suddenly they want to be seen as British rather than Scottish? Has he no pride in where he came from? Is flying the Saltire and being proud to be Scottish suddenly too beneath him?

He's always said he's very proud to represent Britain - he's still a proud Scot though.

Plus lets face it, he probably feels he has to prove he's proud to be brittish as well as Scottish after all that jazz that went on around the World Cup.
Win the people of Britain over again...

The crowd are the reason Andy is still in this tournament, he needs them on his side and photos like that help.

I'm very proud to be Scottish.  You won't meet someone more patriotic.

But let's stop being petty.  Andy is obviously very proud to be Scottish, but he represents British tennis.

If he was proud to be Scottish he wouldn't be playing as a British player and flying the Union Flag. He'd be playing as a Scottish player and flying the Saltire. You can't be proud to be British and Scottish there opposing views of our country. One represents freedom and democracy and pride in your country. The other represents a narrow minded colonial view that we must be controlled from a neighbouring state not allowed to control our own country. However the Scots who go to London always sell us out to improve their lot.

You can't represent Scotland in tennis.  The ATP doesn't recognise the home nations as being separate.

Here's what happened.  The press came and asked Andy to pose for pictures while flying the Union Jack.

How should he have responded to that request?

Possibly the most random reply I've received for a while.

I like it.

I can just see Andy preparing to take a dump and the staff trying frantically to pull the covers over the court before he curls one off.

The ground staff would love it, after all it may be their last appearance on centre court once the roof is on.

Next year they'll still have a delay, of about half an hour, while they close the roof.
