Has it been a good Wimbledon for Andy? « on: July 02, 2008, 08:49:15 PM »

He's went out rather tamely in the QFs, partly due to a flat performance and Nadal having an inspired match, I've never seen him so dominant on grass before.

But has this been a good 2 weeks for Andy? Smile He's reached a career milestone of a Grand Slam QF, and he finally broke his duck against Gasquet, one of his contemporaries. He's also endeared himself to the British public with his more subdued anger and fighting spirit.

What do you think? Does this set himself up nicely for the rest of the year like it did in 2006?

Best thing from this Wimbledon is his consistency and him finally beating Gasquet which I think will finally allow him to beat him in the future.

I think Andy has a great Wimbledon.  He obviously wasn't going to beat Nadal but I would have liked him to fight better, but Nadal was too good for him.

The bad thing is its made me realise that what Nadal is to Murray is what Sampras (later Federer) was to Henman Frown

Andy probably feels disappointed that he went out so tamely against Nadal, but that match against Gasquet was an absolute classic, not just for Andy but for Wimbledon and British tennis!

Rafa's current tennis is most likely going to beat Federer's so just hope Andy doesn't feel disheartened.

I can't wait till the US Open Series, it's where he does best and makes sleepless nights so worth it cmon yeah

Yes it has been. I think he's done brilliantly to get this far - and tonight has been a bit of a wake-up call in terms of the fact he still has some way to go before he can match Nadal. Andy hates losing so much - and surely this will act as a great motivator for him.

If Fedex gets that far - Marat stands in his way cmon yeah but should it come down to a Fedex v Nadal final, I'd go for Nadal Very Happy

Federer really has very little chance if Rafa plays like that.  I'm serious about that.  He's on another planet.

Lets face it guys, that was Nadals A-game which can destroy anyone.

Murray's attitude is now officially superb on this tournament's showing. He's saying all the right things, seems very self aware, and fairly aware of whats around him.

He's pushing personal boundries in terms of fitness, strength, achievement, maturity and whats more, he seems eager to work on everything even further - saying specifically he'd take inspiration from than man who had just destroyed him.

Im impressed.

Nadal showed himself to be a class above at the moment - but I have absolutely no doubt that Andy will reach his level in the near future. All the signs from previous matches are good IMO.

A good wimbledon, its always good when its your best career GS appearance.

I know I keep mentioning it, but that match actually showed just how weak Murrays FH is.  We all know he can hit the ball hard, I dont know if he refuses to or just thinks its better to moonball his FH.  From now on, he needs to be aggressive with that shot especially against the top players.  There was and is way too many errors on that side and he wasnt even going for it.

Nadal played superb, but there was times when Nadal left the ball short for Murray to attack with his FH (commentators picked up on it), but he just passed it back and what can he expect in return? An unforced error.  Unlikely!
