Just read it, that's a surprise, I know she had said she was starting a tennis academy with Carlos but I thought she would still be playing, she's only 25 and could go for another few years yet.

Apparently she hasn't the heart for it anymore, has won everything she has wanted to win and has enough money to last her 3 lifetimes - her words.

Never! For so many reasons. roflmao

I think she's being a hypocrite as she was very jugdemental when Kim wanted to quit tennis for an actual reason, starting a family.

She just couldn't cope with being beaten by low ranked players (Federer has the same problem, but he doesn't give up). She's out of creative solutions and therefore throws in the towel.

I don't agree. I believe her results this year are a result of the problem which she's retiring because of.

That don't sound right.  Didn't her marriage fail?  If shes preggers she'd be a bit of slag sleeping around and getting knocked up lol

Shocking! She could at least carry on for a few months for the French and Wimbledon.. .finish it off properly.. to just go into a press conference and announce retirement without pre-warning isquite shocking.

Last three, plus one other time. Twice the australian, and once the US. I think she won the season ending tourney twice, and has finished the year as number 1 three times.

I'm not a lover of flat chest, but then there's a few women I don't like either.  Not to take anything away from her achievements - fantastic player, like Fedex, but no personality!

I'll be curious if we find out there's another reason beyond her lack of passion in the next few months.  I certainly didn't see it coming either, and the women's game will miss her.
