Andy Murray has withdrawn from his quarter final against Andy Roddick due to a thumb injury sustained during his third round encounter against Gulbis.

Despite reports that Andy was seen practicing at the club this morning and that his scan had resulted in the decision to attempt to play, the BBC have confirmed that the British number one has withdrawn.Interview

Murray's decision is the latest in a long line of withdrawals from the tournament this year and, as a result, the condition of the courts has been brought into question.

Murray talks about his decision
I spoke to doctors and if it was a groin injury or something like that it would have been a different story.

But if I cannot hold on to a racquet properly then there is no point going out on court. It is unfortunate because I have had some great matches with Andy in the past.

It is pretty badly bruised and I will take three or four days off before I start playing properly again. I should get a full week's practice before Wimbledon.

I hope to be playing again early next week and I don't think Wimbledon will be a problem at all.

Murray is next scheduled to play in an exhibition match at the Boodles tournament in Stoke Park on Tuesday.

Glad this has happened, good decision. I assume Murray's schedule will not change as he will take a few days to fully recover.

I'd think so. A sprain shouldn't take longer than a couple of days to get better. Once the swelling goes down he'll be good to go. I can't believe he did this in the first set yesterday and still played the match he did. Especially serving, seeing as that was where he said he felt it. Double fault on bp in the first certainly makes sense now.

Mark Petchey has just interviewed Andy, he said it hurts when he trys the backhand and slice, it sounds like it is more precautionary than anything.  Mark did mention to Andy that he had read the autobiography and was wondering why there were no photographs of him in it, Andy just laughed and said he didn't know there weren't any.

I suppose. I still wonder why we got the report he was gonna give it a go. Surely if it hurt on those shots this morning, it still hurt on them now? I can understand why he withdrew and why he left it to the last minute, but why say he'll play?

Yes, it is very strange that he said he would play... maybe the officials were forcing him to make a decision so he said yes in the hope of a huge rain delay. I can't think of any other reason.

Maybe the BBC reported it on a whispered rumor based on the fact the Dr said he was fit to play? I don't know. It's just a little odd to have such conflicting reports so close together. Cause it seems he never had any intention of playing.

Yeah, that could be the case although you would hope for better journalism from the BBC Smile

Lloydy was saying that he thought it was the right decision, although Andy had been wanting more match practice, he said as the exhibition next week was owned by Andys Management Company, he would be fit in on the days he wanted to play although exhibition matches weren't quite as good as proper tournament matches, but I suppose it is still practice on grass and he will be relaxed during it too.

Whispers is right, you never actually saw Andy saying he would play, Sue Barker just had someone speaking into her ear piece and she interupted what was Andrew Castle was saying, to say Andy would 'give it ago' but I doubt it was him speaking to her.

It's getting pretty ridiculous now. He managed to winb the match yesterday despite his 'injury', but now pulls out today. He's a joke, and he's kidding himself if he think his lame attitude is going to get him a slam.
