Before its mostly ignored and forgotten i wanted to give credit to Jamies albeit modest achievements in the AO. He obviously fought his guts out today too, so good luck to him, i hope he breaks the top 100.

Yeah, count the heads.

Re: Jamie Baker « Reply #21 on: January 14, 2008, 09:33:21 AM »

Agree absolutely.
Well done Jamie. clap clap clap

And took a set off Karlovic, didn't he? Made it look easy(ish), even. yay

Given that he started in the qualies, I'd say he had a better AO than Andy ...

Well done Jamie, wonder if this'll mean a DC call up?

Yep, I'll be very surprised if JL picks Boggo for the singles against Argentina.

Jamie played well. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get in the DC team.

I'm almost sure that Karlovic won because he has more experience at this, the higher, level.

Baker is the 7th in the qualifying for Vina del Mar.

He plays Borja Malo and is 3rd on Court 1 with play starting at 1pm (GMT)

C'mon Jamie

Come on Jamie. I think he could be quite good as our number two. A slightly later bloomer but he works so hard he deserves it.

Aw, poor Jamie. I still have faith in him. Having seen him play he is pretty decent. He has a really good serve, better than Andy at times! But the rest needs to catch up.

Looking at the stats on the ATP it's much better than Andy! His 1st serve % is 13th in the world at 69%. Andy is 105th with 58%. He's 3rd for 2nd serve points won although the fact that only 1 match counts and he was serving at 69% that's not a huge number of points. He still wins 64%

Thing that makes the difference though is that they switch places for Points won on 1st serve with Andy up nearer the top and Jamie sitting around 130. And Andy's top 10 for almost all returning stats (2nd for returning 1st serve and 3rd for return games won) and Jamie's outside the top 100.

But Jamie's stats are based on one match against Kalovic, who has a good serve which is hard to return.  Karlovc isn't the best at returning, which is why his serve is ranked s high.

I assume this is for the match against Dr Ivo at the AO?

If so, I saw the 1st 3 sets of this match and it's no wonder his return of serve was so low. Dr Ivo sent down some massives serves during the match. Jamie did well to take a set off him and I think Jamie broke his serve twice.

BBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOO the rankings system!!!  shocking no

Despite beating the world number 41 in straight sets Baker is going to drop out of the top 250, to about 271, because he's dropping 24 points from a challenger semi this time last year.

Doesn't matter, if he can play at that level more often, he can break into the top 150 no problem. Maybe higher.

Are you suggesting Boggo doesn't work hard, isn't committed and doesn't deserve his ranking then?
