Played that whole 3 hour match with no arm trouble. Practised today and tried a few smashes and it flared up again. Looks like I just need to avoid serving over-arm and avoid smashes for a few weeks to allow it to heal.

Why don't you just avoid tennis/all sports for a couple of weeks? It will never heel if you keep playing injured.

But if I play without doing overarm serves and avoid smashes then it seems to be absolutely fine. So I think it is still healing, probably slower, even though I continue to play
And frankly, the answer to your question is I like tennis too much to have such a break

Meh. You're still going to be faced with shots that are no good for your arm. Better to just take 2 weeks off IMO. Then you will be able to serve properly (or at least to try
) and smash.
