Marriage Rate Fallen
« on: March 26, 2008, 04:16:07 PM »
LONDON (Reuters) - The marriage rate has fallen to its lowest level since records began in 1862, provisional figures from the Office for National Statistics show.

So, why is this the current trend?

The increasing awareness that marriage means a serious decline in sex life.
A more likely reason would be it simply being less important in today's society and therefore allowing couples to settle in with their careers and then marry. Also it's so bloody expensive, did it used to be cheaper?

We've discussed the pros and cons of marriage before fairly recently. I personally think people should get married if you're gonna start up a family.

I don't want to get married for another 10 years and the thought of children scares the sh*t out of me but if I were to have them, mid 30s does sound the likely time.

Have you met your soul mate? And when did you actually want children?

Right now I hate the idea of having a family but of course so does almost everyone at my age. It is indeed interesting that there seems to be a biological shift that suddenly puts us into procreate mode.

Were you young when you met your husband? I ask because I want to know whether you had the biological shift after being in that relationship or you wanted children the moment you found your husband because he was simply "the one"?

Ah so you wanted children before you met him and when you found him it was time to pop them out! (can't believe I just said that!

Thats just me when I see a fine good looking man
I think its not a case of people don't get married because of possible lack of sex or cost in getting married, its the fact that living out of wedlock is acceptable these days. I'm actually shocked when I hear one of my brothers mates are getting married and they are 25-26 years old.

Well they had two children who are 5 and 3 so it seemed like they should get married I guess. So the kids mummy would have the same last night as them.
My other brother has two children too but him and his girlfriend won't be getting married anytime soon I don't think.

I don't know if the names really have much to do with it. If they are their fathers or mothers surname from birth why would they question that?
I suppose marriage is just to show are you committed to one person. Maybe the reason people aren't getting marriage because they think it might end in a messy divorce.

Oh, missed this one and no time to really stay and chat but would say that really people should marry if children are involved, that there's really no good time to have children and planning takes all the fun out of it! and that I've been married (good times outway the bad) for 23 years this year, and have been together for 25
and that I really wasn't bothered if I had a ring on my finger or not, would show the same kind of comitment, but meant something to hubby that we were married and I respected his opinion.
