Murray confirmed for Heineken Open
« on: November 08, 2005, 04:02:40 AM »

Auckland's Heineken Open has received another big boost with the confirmation that rising British tennis star Andy Murray will play in the January event.
Heineken Open tournament director Graham Pearce is delighted to have signed up the youngster.
Pearce said:
Each year we look to have a potential future star in the Heineken Open singles and we are pleased that Andy Murray, who is clearly seen as a star on the way up, will be playing in Auckland.
This is sure to create tremendous interest amongst tennis people in New Zealand and the UK media and supporters.
Murray joins a quality list of players confirmed for January's 2006 Heineken Open with four top-20 players in Fernando Gonzalez, Robby Ginepri, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Dominik Hrbaty plus wildcards Mark Philippoussis and Mark Nielsen.
The tournament starts on January 9 from the ASB Tennis Centre.

It is good news, but what happens if he gets to the final on the Saturday in New Zealand and then has to play in Australia on the Monday, I know this is probably a bit of a stretch but you never know it could happen.

I just read an article saying that the Next Generation International are trying to get Andy as well, that would really be to much, it is in Adelaide from 2-8 January, I think that one really has to be turned down. It is supposed to be the warm up tournament for the Aussie Open.

Wow, I didn't realise that there were any tournaments in New Zealand - pity I won't be there then! Not moving out until later in the year but with a bit of luck, he'll really have a good tournament there and just might play there in 2007!

Just been looking at properties out there, for renting initially, and guess what, there's a Murrays Bay near Auckland!
Scotland is beautiful
- would have been my 'plan B' to move there if the New Zealand thing didn't work!
Thanks for the good luck - think we'll need it!
