A below-par Andy Murray suffered a disappointing 6-3 6-3 2-6 7-5 defeat to Hyung-Taik Lee in the third round of the US Open.

Lee played some of his best tennis in the first two sets against a sluggish Murray who only woke up to take charge in the third.Match ReactionInterview

In the fourth set the Scot came back from 5-2 to 5-5 saving two match points in the process.

Murray's serve seriously let him down throughout the entire match and eventually caused his downfall when he lost it serving for a tie-break at 6-5 in the fourth.

I knew Lee would be a serious danger and put this match at 50/50... ah well. Guess he needs some more match practice.

So his second full ATP season has been blighted by full blown injury problems where his first was hampered by fitness issues. On that front its not getting any better but he has played some world class tennis this year - lets see some more of that in the future!

The thing im worried about now is that there isnt too much to achieve for the rest of this year. The best he can do in the tournaments left is send out a message that he'll be back with avengence next year. Its disappointing he more than likely wont be among the elite at the season end masters cup because it means that after all he's still just a potentially top player rather than an established one.

My main worry is fuzzyesque, in that by now people know all about him and they'll cope with him easier next season - meaning he's got harder work to do than we think to re-establish his credentials - and he might struggle to do better than just top 20.  Think

That's the only thing I'll disagree with from your post. That was a concern before the start of this season as everyone finally knew about him. Nothing will change in regards to that next season.

I think he was still an unknown quantity at the start of the year, but now the ups and downs of his game and progress are well documented. A lot of people have had a shot or two of playing him by now and there's definatley flaws to Andy's matchplay (rather than his shot ability which is potentially as good as anyone's in the world) that they'll be starting to think about. I just hope he's thinking about them too!

I am with Mark on this one, he beat enough high-profile people in 2006 to have gotten noticed. They knew him alright, and after his win over Federer, EVERYONE knew him. He was the only one to beat Federer except Nadal in 2006 after all.

The point is, if he plays well, the Roddick comment of 'confuse and conquer' is spot-on, and there is not a lot the players can do about that style. Even if they know he's going to come up with the unexpected, they still can't prepare for it!

He's playing in Davis Cup in 2 weeks.

Q. What is the schedule after Davis Cup? Where do you go?
ANDY MURRAY: I think I'm not sure if I'm definitely not going to go to Asia. That was a bad mistake last year. Probably take the week after Davis Cup off and then play I think it's Moscow and I'm going to play the two tournaments in Russia, Moscow and St. Petersburg in between Madrid and Paris.

Yup, I also thought he might lose to the qualifier so I'm not that disappointed.

Lee's on a roll, Andy has nothing to blame himself for. 3rd round after an injury (and quite some mental problems) is a good performance. clap
