Andy Murray's string of defeats against Novak Djokovic continued with a disappointing 6-0 6-4 defeat in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The British number one seemed to lose his resolve after losing his serve after seven deuces in the second game, and the first set resulted in an embarrassing scoreline for the Scot, as he was outclassed by his opponent.

However, Murray somehow found himself a break up in the second set, as Djokovic's intensity dropped, but it was another disappointment as the Brit failed to capitalise, and surrendered his break almost immediately. Murray's serve looked fragile throughout, and a few loose points gave Djokovic three match points, and the world number three sealed victory in just under eighty minutes.

He needs to be more aggressive.

To start working with Alex Corretja before the clay season is a good move. You can see that Andy is trying to mix it up and change the pace.

I'm not 100% on clay, I still feel best on the hard courts, but I have high goals and intentions in the major tournaments on clay.

Djokovic's post-match comments
It was a great win for me, but I didn't expect such an easy first set.

At the start of the match we had a really, really long game - the second of the match - and I think it was the turning point in that set.

I was trying to stay focused and stay calm and be aggressive because Andy is a very talented player and can come back at any time.

I predicted Nole in two - it's clear that Djokovic is such a better player than Murray at the moment, and his foolish decision to fire Brad has now widened the gap even further between them both.

I just wonder whether Andy has a mental block when it comes to Novak now, it might be better if they weren't friends. Still at least this isn't a two week course and Andy will be back in action next week, it'll give Alex a chance to tell him where he went wrong and get him back on track to win the next MS title. w00t

Why is everyone getting their knickers in a twist? This was only Andy's 3rd match on clay in a year. He beat two solid clay court players and got to the third round. O.k. he didn't play as well as everyone expected him to but its not the end of the World. Disappointing yes, but going backwards? I don't think so. Give it another couple of tournaments and you'll all be singing for a different hymn sheet.

My thoughts too! Novak is a bloody hard player to beat, fair enough he should have won a set or something! But I don't think it's Andy Murray Armagedeon.

No it certainly isn't. He gained some ranking points so its not all bad and its not a crime to lose to Nole - he is a bloody hard player to beat.

Its only dire because we expect Andy to do that to others. It wasn't his brightest moment but it happened. He'll get his revenge one day but maybe not when we want him to. He'll be back fighting and winning before long or I'll eat my dog. Little tongue man

when will the day come when he really beats top players and not beat federer every two years...andy and brad would never ever worked longer than two years,i´m still sad about it cause i think andy needs someone in his team who really kicks his ass and when someone will do this like brad maybe have done, andy says goodbye....
i really like the game of him,i love him to watch playing a game like against rafa in 07 but sometimes he plays.... doh

Not too disapointed apart from the fact he got bagelled andwas broken 5 times in the match. Frown

Although it doesn't help to comment on it when I didn't see it.

I do not think this loss is something to get overly upset at. Yes it would be nice not to have a bagel. But I would like to raise 2 points
1. Andy has managed to for the first time win two matches in a row on clay which is a step forward.
2. Andy was playing Djokovic who is currently the hottest player on the tour and on current form can beat anyone.

If Andy can get to the 3rd round minimum in all his clay tournaments then he will move slowly but steadily up the ranks once the grass and hardcourt season starts where Andy usually does better he can really make big advances. I believe that 2009 will be the season for Andy to make a breakthrough on Clay.

I think he can end this season comfortably in the top 6-8 then next year if he clicks on clay the extra points gained will push him into the top 5.
