Murray’s bid to make the draw for the Masters Cup in Shanghai gathered more momentum today with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of tour veteran Fabrice Santoro.

The first set was full of ups and downs as both men exchanged breaks of serve. However, at 5-4 the Scot was finally given a chance to serve for the set and, despite having to save another break point, he held serve and won the set in 45 minutes.

The second set, on the other hand quickly became a bit of a steam-rollering of the Frenchman as Murray raced to a 4-0 lead. Santoro did manage to secure two of his own service games toward the end of the set but Andy never looked troubled as he served out the match to love.

Murray's quarter-final tomorrow will see him up against Richard Gasquet after he defeated James Blake, 6-4 6-4.

Vliegen beat Gasquet in straight sets at Roland Garros, the home crowd shouldn't be too much of a stimulation I hope.
