No, it wouldn't have. But, he'd be up to 9th in the race, instead of 10th...

I think it's fair to say that we'd just got so excited and got our hopes up at the prospect of him going that we were just gutted when it really was the FINAL hurdle he fell at. Hee won the middle set 6-0, he won more games and more points in the match. We know he can do better than he did and, as fans, we just want him to realise that potential consistantly so we get to celebrate the big occasions, not talk about how much he's achieved through disappointment.

And he might have been more likely to think about heading out as first alternate. Especially considering the Roddick rumours. I think it's a wise decision not to go. To disturb his year end training for a sniff at Shanghai this year when we know he's gonna have plenty more oppertunities in years to come would have been a bit silly.
