Andy Murray is seeded eighth at the Cincinnati Masters event and therefore has been gifted with a bye in the opening round.

The 21-year-old suffered from a knee injury at the Toronto Masters but has confirmed he should be fit to play.

It's something I've had for quite a long time. It does hurt from time to time in matches. I'll have a scan on Monday but I should be OK to play.

This is my favourite surface. I feel I play consistently well on it, and my results in the bigger tournaments would suggest that.

The Scot is due to meet either Paul-Henri Mathieu or Sam Querrey in the second round. Murray has a positive head to head against both men having beaten Mathieu on both occasions they met and Querrey once.

R1- Bye
R2- Mathieu or Querrey
R3- Gasquet (predicted)
QF- Davydenko (predicted)
SF- Federer (predicted)

Murray finds himself in the same quarter as Nikolay Davydenko, and in the same half as world number one, Roger Federer.

Draw in full

Id expect him to beat Federer on current form.  Fed looks out of sorts, so I'd be disappointed if Muzza slipped up.  That is unless Fed hits JesusFed mode.

I don't think Gasquet can be counted out quite yet, he's still a threat.

Gasquet is my only worry.  I'd be supremely confident about Murray beating both Davydenko and Federer.  Sounds strange to be so confident, but Murray's game is all wrong for Fed at the best of times, nevermind when he's struggling.

yes  Gasquet was excellent against Nadal in that 1st set - he has a fantastic one handed backhand clap  I know that Murray beat him at Wimbledon but it's different playing on your home turf.  Could be a toughie.

Yeah agreed but I still think that Andy should at least reach the semis and can easily go further.

But so much of Gasquet's game goes wrong for him in his head. And in that Andy way has the upper hand. Having finally beaten him, and especially in such a big occassion when Gasquet should have had the match sewn up dozens of times gives Andy an edge. I think if he comes out and piles the pressure and keeps it up, Gasquet will fall to pieces.

Gasquet had one opportunity to seal the match, not dozens.  With the exception of the double fault, Andy won that game.  It wasn't a choke.

In any other tournament Murray would have lost that but the crowd helped tremendously and I do think Gasquet mentally suffered due to the one sided support.

It's all conjecture.  Gasquet was up two sets and a break.  Murray broke his serve.  It was no different to Gasquet breaking Murray's serve.  Just because Murray happened to break at 4-5 doesn't mean Gasquet choked.  Watch that game again and you'll see that Andy won 3 of those 4 points: a screaming backhand winner, an awesome return of serve that was out of Gasquet's reach when he came in to volley and a forehand that forced a Gasquet error.  Gasquet double faulted for the break, but Murray won the other points.  You can't call 1 double fault a choke.

After that, Gasquet never had any chances.  Murray played a great tiebreaker and then simply outplayed Gasquet.  It was a best of 5 sets match.  The fact that someone is up by 2 sets does not mean that they *should* win the match.  They still have to win another set.  Losing from 2 sets up does not automatically equate to a choke.  It simply means that they lost 3 sets in a row.  It's the same as losing in straight sets.

People seem to think that a 2 set lead should automatically lead to a win and if it doesn't, it's a choke.  It's nonsense.  Gasquet lost because Murray raised his level and he couldn't maintain his own level.  If anything, it was a lack of stamina that cost him and not a choke.
