Murray moves on to Moscow
« on: October 08, 2007, 08:18:53 PM »
After his defeat in Metz yesterday afternoon Andy Murray will move on to play the
Kremlin Cup
in Moscow, Russia.
Murray, seeded 3rd, has been drawn to play Russian
Evgeny Korolev
in the first round. He is currently ranked 88 and reached the quarter- finals in Metz last week. The tie which will be played on Wednesday will be the first meeting of the two.
In the second round Janko Tipsarevic, who won against Sergio Roitman today, will be hoping to get revenge over with Murray who beat him last week in Metz.
R1 > Evgeny Korolev
R2 > Janko Tipsarevic
QF > Dimitry Tursunov (expected)
SF > Nikolay Davydenko (expected)
F > Mikhail Youzhny (expected)
The draw in full.

Semi-finals without a doubt, not sure if he can beat the likes of Davydenko though

I don't know, Davy has been a bit up and down recently so he might have a chance against him. But would Andy be fit enough to get that far and not get too tired from reaching the finals last week?

I think he'll be fine... Metz wasn't particularly tough.

I agree, a week of mostly untaxing 2 setters shouldn't take that much out of him.

It's been great to see him get some confidence back this week. His game seems to be returning to pre-injury standard. Semis or final this week would be great. He needs to do well in the two remaining Masters Series in Madrid and Paris to take him back towards the top-ten. Position himself nicely for a great start to 2008!

I have to say I did worry at one stage whether Murray would ever regain his form after such a long timeout, so I was very relieved after Metz

Yep, reckon our boy can go all the way here...Davydonkey's got too much on his mind with Betfair/Russian mafia on his case. Decent crowd will be waving brown envelopes at him...beats big Youzhny in final 4-6, 6-3, 6-4

I agree with Mark (as usual).
On the Today programme, Radio 4, this morning, Andy mentioned match-fixing in tennis- being sure it went on.
I am sure Andy is totally honest.
He needs to be very careful in what he says, though, as to a cynical observer, his own final in Metz looked very suspicious. He does not want to get involved in a mud-slinging contest.

To bagel the opposition in the first set would not be a good start if you intend to fake a loss

He's saying that it seems to be nearly all Russian players in the tournament.
