33% think Murray lied but let's not forget the 13% who are unsure, that also makes a statement.

Thus giving him a reason to set him self targets (which he subsequently may or may not achieve) of returning to play.
I tell myself after injuring my arm in a 5-set match 2 sets and 1-4 down that I will win the match and I believe it. That's down to my competitive nature but those targets are always unrealistic when seen objectively. Murray has a very competitive nature and therefore his targets will often be unrealistic and he should realise that and keep it to himself and his family.

But Mark, you're taking this whole situation as if he wants to lie and is doing so deliberately. Why would he bother. What makes you think that you, as a fan, are so important, that he would bother.
And, if he is lying, quite honestly, who gives a f**k?

I can't even remember half the theories but it had nothing to do with the fans, it was about other hidden agendas.

But why do there have to be any other hidden agendas? It's tennis, not rocket science. There are far far far more interesting and important things in life.

"He has no responsibility to his fans, you choose to follow him; he doesn't ask you to."
Fans are everything and a top sportsman knows how important the fans are. We choose to follow him yes, but he's got a massive responsibility to those who follow him.
On the point of this topic, you have to bear in mind the huge number of people behind murray. His agents and parents and such like. We blame him because he's the guy we follow. But anyone could have told him he would be back playing. Is it false hope from doctors? bed diagnosis perhaps? sponsors not wanting him to announce pull out? Or murray himself being overly optimistic.
I don't think he lied to his fans. I just think he's not got a very good judgement of his injury other than to play with it day to day and see how it feels. I.e. Say you twist your ankle, leave it 20 minutes then get up and walk about... it feels fine, you start to play tennis again to test it out, and it's either fine or it;s not... you walk about a bit more, it feels totally fine, then you start to play and if it;s fine you continue, if not you pull out. Maybe it's the same with murray's injury. He can only take it a day at a time. It's not like he broke a bone. Muscle and tendon damage is a lot harder to work with.

Quite right. Without fans these sportsmen wouldn't have a salary and therefore we do deserve some respect.

Yes, but he doesn't owe you anything. You are just fans. You don't actually pay his bills. And contrary to that, they would have a salary. If they win, they get paid. And I might remind you that the only tournaments Andy has actually won were in San Jose where I would imagine his 'loyal following' is actually rather small.

Essentially we do actually.

But with no fans there are no people going to the tournaments and with no tournaments and fans there would be no player sponsorship and then there would be no salary.

Murray fans do not pay Murray bills... Tennis fans do, whether they like Murray or not...

Obviously
My point is fans are important and essentially pay the bills when you get to the root of things.
