Andy Murray suffered a frustrating 6-2 5-7 3-6 defeat at the hands of Tommy Haas in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters.
The young Scot started brightly, playing aggressively and forcing several errors out of the German. However, after a one sided first set, Haas became more confident and more accurate with his ground-strokes, pushing Murray behind the baseline as he rallied to force a deciding set.
Unfortunately for Murray, he failed to convert all four of the break point opportunities which arose in the third game of the final set, and from then on, Haas's renewed belief shone through, as he took advantage of a lacklustre service game from the British number one, and held to set up a quarter final clash with either Roger Federer or Ivan Ljubicic.
Murray will now travel to Miami, hoping to defend a semi final berth from last year more successfully than he managed this week.
