Andy Murray is anticipating a very tough encounter with the world number two tomorrow evening as he prepares to take on Rafael Nadal in the third round of the Madrid Masters. I’d like to play Nadal, for sure. It’s not every week that you got to play against one of the best players in the world. I think, in the last two matches, I was better than I was in Australia. I really look forward to the chance, but it's gonna be a tough match. The Spaniard completed a routine 6-4 6-4 win over Marcos Baghdatis despite not being at his best, and will play Murray in tomorrow's evening session. The players are expected out at around 7PM (BST) The pair produced a fabulous five set match back in January at the Australian Open, where Nadal emerged victorious after a gruelling battle and another exciting contest will be expected tomorrow. - Thursdays OOP in full

If Murray brings the form he had against Chela then he will win this.

If Murray brought the form he had against Chela to any match he'd win it. No question. That was the tennis of champions. Once he learns to play like that 7 matches in a row over 5 sets over a fortnight we'll be laughing all the way to the titles!

I don't agree. I think playing like yesterday he can even match (and even beat) Mr Federer.

I think you're letting yourself get carried away. Let's not forget Federer is probably the greatest player that has ever played the game.

I'm not saying he'd do it tomorrow. I'm saying that if Andy can play like the last two days consistantly and regularly he can beat anyone. Cause he was that good. Point is, at the moment he can't. Reason he's still hanging around the top 20 and why were still debating if he can even make the semis. I watched Fed play Ginepri last night, followed by Murray play Chela. And Andy was better. Head and shoulders.

But fed doesn't do more than he has to.

I knew you were gonna say that. But he's not invincible. And he's been beaten. And he doesn't always lose on his own terms (as you could argue he did when Andy beat him last year). He can and has been out-played. And I think Andy in this form could do that. He was amazing on the return yesterday. And he's only lost 25 points on serve in 2 matches.

I also thought you were saying he could basically beat Fed this week which is possible but he only has a chance, that's it. I agree if he keeps this form for long periods then it would happen eventually I guess.

Andy's got a better h2h against Fed than most but all the top seeds have looked beatable and Rafa's hardly played since Wimbledon. The title's there for the taking. Shanghai distinct possiblity if he gets to the final.

"Andy Murray has not looked fitter for a long time, Rafael Nadal is unsure of his fitness and to make sure that he is strong enough for the demands of the months ahead, Roger Federer, the world No 1, has asked for the assistance of Johan de Beer, the South African who helped to keep Tim Henman’s fire burning through the travails with his body as his career slowed to its recent close." today's Times

I was. Saying that he could that is. What I wasn't saying was that he definately would. It's still be an extremely tough match and he'd still have to play his absolute best. I think playing like he did the first two rounds here he can beat anyone, now. What I was also saying is that unfortunately his consistency isn't good enough that he is gonna play like that 7 matches in a row. Once he can just watch the titles rolling in!

If he played like he did against Chela taking on a slightly off-form Federer then he would win. Otherwise Federer would just up his game and probably squeeze a win. But it could go either way I suppose.
