Andy Murray will be seeded 19th for this year's US Open. Due to a poor run of results following a long period of injury, Andy's ATP ranking has slipped to 19th in the world and this has been reflected in his seeding for the 4th Grand Slam of the year. However, this is all dependant on Murray attending Flushing Meadows this year as his participation is not yet confirmed. While earlier this month Murray stated that: I'm definitely not 100% ready. I'm not too close in match fitness but in terms of being pain-free I'm getting there, maybe 70 or 80%.
But there's something seriously wrong with my wrist if I'm not fine to play." Last week Murray opted not to add to his match practice prior to the final Grand Slam of the year when he pulled out of New Haven in favour of flying home to London to spend time with his girlfriend, Kim Sears. While Murray is expected to return to the US tomorrow, many see this move as an indication that Murray does not intend to compete. The draw is expected nearer the weekend.

It is old but relevant I feel. Particularly considering last week he said his wrist was now 100% and it was his confidence in his game he needed now... hence why i think he will play. If his problems are in his head maybe it's not a bad idea that he came home to clear it...

If he doesn't play then once again Team-Murray have shown how they are kings are bulls**t. I'm going to get sick with U-turns soon

Is there only Andy saying this? What's the specialist say? Doesn't sound promising It's an old quote. It was when he was playing down his chances but reassuring everyone he'd definately be there. He was saying there'd have to be something go drastically wrong for him not to play.

But he's no 'expert' when it comes to diagnosing his injury is he? I just think it a funny thing to say (and I hadn't read the quote before too busy skipping over certain articles )

True, but he does know his own body an what he's capable of. And it seems the experts have given him the all clear to go full power with his shots as he's trying to in practice. I'd like to think he'll play considering there's nothing physically wrong, or so they say!

I do not understand why Andy cannot use a couple of professional tennis players to have a "practice" match privately -say play the equivalent of five sets ( e.g. 50 games) - his opponents playing ten games each to keep him on his toes. If the wrist is painful after, say 20 games, he realises he is not ready. If it stands up, he is ready and can enter the US Open. I have seen the blog on Andy's website and wonder what he is supposed to be doing?

I agree oldtimer. You wouldn't think that a hit up with Cox and Rice (both ranked 1283) would provide enough intensive practice for the U.S.O. if he plays next week, he'd better come out totally fired up.

Maybe the higher ranked professionals don't want to play Murray as he is playing so poorly right now
