Murray suffers defeat in Adelaide

Andy Murray missed out on a possible meeting with Lleyton Hewitt when he went out of the Adelaide International in the second round.
He's got some valuable ranking points from his win. I keep forgetting this is his first year on the ATP circuit, we expect so much so quickly, when he needs a couple of years to achieve his peak.

The 18-year-old Scot lost 7-6 4-6 6-1 to world number 24 Tomas Berdych.
Murray said:
Compared to my first match it was a lot better performance, so I have to be positive. I was disappointed I didn't serve as well as I can.
I was much better on the ground, I came to the net a little bit and was moving well.
You want to make sure you are playing better and getting closer and closer to your best with each match.
For me, the most important tournament of this trip is the Australian Open.
Murray will now head to Auckland for his final warm-up tournament before he competes in the Melbourne Grand Slam.

It's so early in the year - these tournies are just warm ups really! And... as our wise hulahoop said, we must not expect too much too soon.
We believe in you Andy, however long it takes...

I suppose he will now be able to go to New Zealand earlier than planned and maybe get some practice time on the courts there. At least he knows the areas he's a bit rusty in and can work on it. Disappointed he lost but as he said he just wants to get in the practice matches before the big tournament, hopefully he will do better next week and then even better again in the Aussie Open. Go Andy.
You rock and we're all rooting for you.

I would have so wanted him to play Hewitt...
But you're right, Tally!

It's disappointing, but Berdych is one tough opponent. I remember when Andy beat him last time out, he was incredibly lucky. Berdych actually battered Andy in the first set, yet Andy got a lucky break against the run of play.

Good to see that Andys positive in defeat - always a good sign! And hulahoops totally right - its only the start of the year and the start of his career
There a new audio up on the bbc site
(looks like Agassi, Safin and Nadal are going to be out of the Oz open)

Even if he had beaten Berdych he still wouldn't have been playing Hewitt, as he has now lost to the German Kohlschreiber, 6-3, 0-6, 7-5. I've never even heard of the Germa, I'll need to go and have a look on the ATP site and look him up.

A slightly more negative review of the match in my opinion. Says the same things, but with a different tone IMO....anyone else get this?
And a slight different (albeit it short) Times article

Yeah... I have noticed that in some previous articles too... perhaps they're just being "independent" and not liking him 'cos everyone else does.
