Murray talks about Carlos « on: July 29, 2007, 02:35:33 AM »
Reply with quote

Murray has been spending a lot of time at Roehampton with his friend Carlos Mier for the past few weeks and now he wants you to know more about him.[float=right][/float]

In this video that lasts around 8 minutes, the Scot talks about how he met Carlos and what they get up to.

I met him in Spain when I was training there. He's really shy until he gets to know you and then he's funny guy.
Murray also reveals how he is unbeatable against Carlos at Pro Evo on the PlayStation.

If I concentrate and think during the games, there's no chance he'll ever beat me. He always says that some how I'm cheating in every game.

Haha.  I can just picture Andy jumping about and waving his arms in the air going "Look at me!  Everyone look at me!  I'm still here, honestly!".

Andy: I met him in, er, Spain when I was training there, and, we got there around the same time and didn’t say (he’s really shy until he gets to know you and then he, he’s a funny guy)

Rob: yeah

Andy: Em, so for the first year that I was there I didn’t – you know I was there for two and a half years the first year and a bit I was there never said a word to him never spoke to him …

Rob: right

Andy: … at all. Er, you know he’d walk past with his head down. We stayed like 3 doors along from each other, and never spoke to each other. And then kind of, he… My best friend from Venezuela then was good friends with Carlos and we kind of started to speak a little bit – we were playing playstation together and then became quite good friends, so …

Rob: Was he is he that shy with everyone, or was it just you. Was he intimidated by by you – because obviously you’re a brilliant guy.

Andy: (laughs) He is intimidated by my brilliance of of person.

Rob: Yeah. Yeah yeah. Well he won’t be the first (general laughter including another Carlos? in the background).

Andy: No he’s quite like that – he doesn’t really speak that much unless he knows you. Em, but, yeah, I mean, he’s I dunno he’s just a sort of shy shy guy until he has a few drinks in him, and then he’s out of control.

Rob: Yeah. So, em, what else should we know about Carlos?

Female voice (Kim?): Inevitably he… (rest is hard to hear)

Andy: He, er, what else should you know about Carlos? Er, he’s 22.

Rob: 22

Andy: Lives in Lima, or born in Peru, lives in Lima

Rob: Speaks good English, though

Andy: Took. This is quite impressive. He took his exams, which are like the International sort of GCSEs, in English. Em, I’m not sure, he got one A, I know he got one A, a few Bs and some Cs I think, but I think that’s a good effort doing it in in your second language.

Rob: Hm. So academically he’s quite bright as well.

Andy: He’s yeah, he’s a clever guy.

Rob: Yeah. And presumably if he’s a little bit older than you, I guess you wouldn’t have played much tennis with him when you are in Barcelona together, or …

Andy: Em. We played a couple of times when I was first there, when I was younger. But, he, em (laughs) I don’t think he will mind me saying this – he is quite lazy, doesn’t like working very hard. He actually could have been quite good if he sort of wanted to. But, he, erm, he’s a bit lazy. So we like after that I was starting to get better, he was starting to get worse and then we stopped practising.

Rob: Right.

Andy: Stopped practising to each other

Rob: So what how sort of analyse Carlos’ game for us what do you reckon are his strong points and his weaknesses. His weaknesses obviously are that he’s lazy.

Andy: He’s lazy. Bad concentration. Erm, he has … he has a bad attitude.

Rob: You’re really selling him here as a prospect (laughs)

Andy: No, I mean he hits the ball well. Like he hits he’s got nice shots, he hits the ball well, he’s quite talented. But that’s true. If you just watch some of the footage of what you filmed, you will see after every single point he is slumping over, he’s always complaining about something, something’s wrong.

[Footage of practice]

Andy: I mean a lot of it he does it sort of jokingly, but deep down, that is really him.

Rob: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[break]

Rob: He likes to go by the name of Charles now, what the history behind that?

Andy: I’ve no idea why. But Charles Meyer instead of Carlos Mier.

Rob: Yeah. He says that’s his Hollywood name, or something.

Andy: Really?

Rob: Yeah, that’s what he was saying the other day. So em, who’s winning the battle of playstation out of you two at the moment? Because I get the impression that you are sort of locked in an ongoing Pro Evo Soccer battle with him.

Andy: Yeah, but …

Rob: He’s never happy when I speak to him about what sport the the last game that you’ve had. He’s always grumbling that you’ve been doing something unfair.

Andy: Yeah, this is exactly. This is him every single time. Because the last time we spoke about it, em, I said that if I concentrate and think like during the games, there’s no chance that he will ever beat me.

Rob: Yeah

Andy: Em, you know he said whatever you like. I think the last thing he said to you was that he would beat me 4 times out of 10.

Rob: Yeah

Andy: So since then we’ve played, and he hasn’t won a game.

Rob: Right (laughs)

Andy: Because I’ve been wanting to prove a point that I’m so much better than him (laughs). And he’s now said that we are not just going to play one off games because it takes him time to warm up. We need to play best of five, we need to play best of five, we need to play with the same teams, we need to play with you know the best team in the game, like Brazil and you know whatever.

Rob: Yeah

Andy: Just so that it is exactly fair. So the last time we played we played one game it was Nigeria against Nigeria, Brazil against Brazil, and then like Inter Milan against Inter Milan, that was it 3-0 for me.

Rob: And does he still manage to find excuses, even though that it’s a level playing field?

Andy: It’s like he always says that it’s you know me I’m being an idiot when we are playing. And you know I’m somehow I’m cheating in every game – I don’t know how. And he’s the one like just when I’m about to shoot he’ll pause the game. And then he’ll say like “Sorry, someone’s on the phone, someone’s calling me”. Stuff like that. And it’s like I never do any of that stuff.

Rob: But he’s like that when you play when you play tennis as well. He’s always he’s always stopping between points to kind of check his ankle or lean against like the side of the court.

Andy: (laughing) Yeah he’s… Er, it’s actually quite … It’s quite …It’s funny … I find it funny, but comes a time when he has to just you just say come on get on with it.

Rob: Yeah

Andy: I just want to want to play

Rob: I just want to kick his arse.

Andy: Yeah, exactly

Rob: But em, he has quite a British sense of humour for a Peruvian.

(Speaking at the same time)
Andy: Yeah, he’s quite sarcastic
Rob: he’s pretty straight, he’s quite like you, he’s very sarcastic

Andy: I think that’s why we get on well. Because like … yeah, we kind of we get each other’s jokes. And, (laughs) yeah, we laugh at each other’s jokes all the time, which I guess probably that probably helps.

Rob: Yeah. I like I like the one the other day when I think it was in between something or other, and he sat down and said with a completely straight face “Thank you, Andy, for giving me the opportunity to play with such a great player”.

Andy: (laughs) He actually sat me down, em, yesterday when I was practicing with him. So we finished playing like a first to eleven, he’s like “Did you see that shot that I hit - you know I brought you into the net, and then you thought I was going to go across court with like a topspin backhand, and then I just played like a slice down the line”. And I was like “I don’t remember it”, and he’s like …

Rob: (laughs)

Andy: ... and then he’s like, er, he’s like “Ah, fine, he’s like it’s the last time I give you the opportunity to play with a player like me, it’s the last time I give you this opportunity” (laughter). And then he’s always like, you know well we’ll be playing a game. Oh like so yesterday a few days ago we were painting the flat like the hallway in the flat. You know and he’s spilling paint on the floor, and I’m like you know no one else is doing it, and I’m like “What are you doing just be careful, put the sheet over the floor”, and he's like “It wasn’t me”. And I’m like “Yes it was, that’s where you’re working, no one else has been painting there” and he said “I can’t work like this, I can’t work like this” and then he puts the paint down and just leaves. (laughter)

I just think it is lame that the videos were made for am.com, which happens to be Andy's site, and that this site takes that stuff and says oh well because it was on youtube and because the nice person who typed up the transcript didn't copyright it, we can just stick it on our site. haha. this site is a joke.  lmao
