Unless they're are old, a good player should never decide that they don't have what it takes to be a top-10 player - they should keep trying and trying. If Murray is going to hover in the top-20 for a couple of years and then pack it in then that's a big shame because he could easily suddenly make it big from that point onwards.

There's no way Andy is going to hover in the top 20 for a couple of years.  He'll be back in the top 10 this year.  He's got the talent all he needs is the consistency.

His comments sound like Safin's, fed up and would rather climb Mnt Everest than play tennis. Rolling Eyes I think he needs to realise his potential and if that's only top 20 then come to terms with it, I know he's a perfectionist but questioning whether tennis is "fun" at the age of 20 really shows no hunger at all imo.

I disagree.  He knows he is better than top 20 and in my opinion his remarks show he is hungry to be the best.

I would argue that someone his age should not for a second be thinking about the restrictions on his potential and should continue to believe he can be the best given time.

Regarding your Safin comment, I think Cate said the same thing to me this morning. lol

At least you are now providing a link to the article (though most will just read your selection of quotes)

If you bother to read all the article you will see that these are comments delivered in Barcelona in the aftermath of his defeat to Ancic.  Strange then that the 'shock horror story' has not been picked up by another source since then.

And in fact  many of these comments minus the sensationalised headlines appeared in The Herald on 1st May.

So relax. Hold back on your knee-jerk reactions and the negative sensationalised comments. Understandable though, I suppose, since if Murray quit, where would that leave MW?

As usual dishing out completely false accusations at this website. Rolling Eyes

1) All quotes in the sourced article have and remain in our article.

2) In our article it said exactly where these comments were made.

It should be noted that we are reporting on this story unlike the news blackout at AM.com.

ADVICE: Learn to read.

Oh how I hope you are right! That is my root belief in Andy certainly but his attitude sometimes gets you thinking the opposite. Is he a spoilt petulant teenager or someone who manages to put his foot in it when he opens his mouth and is mis-understood. Not everyone can be sqeaky clean an' wholesome like Novac - Andy is not a clean-cut sunny personality like his brother, he's - well he's Andy and I don't doubt his dedication and determination - he does, indeed, need our SUPPORT and he'll certainly get mine. yay yay yay yay

Yeah and he without a doubt has the support of all of us here (apart from a couple) and we will support him whether he is dropping down the rankings or is in top form. As long as he makes the right decision with his coaching options, I expect to see him in Shanghai at the end of the year.

Unfortunately some readers seem to think that criticism means you're not a fan and that is a very sad and unproductive misconception indeed.

I agree with Senga and Mark completely and, even if he loses against Nadal, it will be a super match if he gets there next week and one, I'm sure he can be proud of. Nadal seems to bring out the best in him somehow.

We know he is going to lose against Nadal, that's almost a certainty but hopefully Murray will come out of it having learned some vital lessons that will boost his future performances on clay Smile

1) I am not just talking about andy's quotes, I am talking about the information in the whole article.

2)I am emphasising also 'when' the comments were made, which to my mind is highly relevant.

To repeat, it is strange that this 'shock horror story' has not been picked up by another source since the comments were made ie after the Ancic match.
