Andy Murray has taken a wildcard into the Pilot Pen event in New Heaven which is the final tournament before the US Open grand-slam event.

The Scot has decided to debut at Pilot Penn to give himself some much needed last minute preparation before the US Open.

Having missed more than two months of competition I thought it would be a good idea to play another tournament before the US Open and the Pilot Pen is the perfect opportunity to do so. It will be my first time playing this event and I look forward to it.

This could be seen as a positive move because it may suggest he believes he'll be fit for the US Open OR it could be seen as him expecting to miss more tournaments leading up to the event Think

Come on Mark don't be so skeptical! you don't take a wild card because you are planning to miss tournaments! You got to be positive about Andy's return though we know that injury was really serious!

So does this mean he plays the 2 Master Series events as well or just the Pilot Pen as it sounds suspiciously like he will pull out of the 2 master series events and just play the Pilot Pen.

I thought so too actually. The fact he's put in for this looks suspiciously like he doesn't think he's gonna be ready for one or both these Masters events.

If its proved to be correct and Murray only plays the Pilot Pen then he will need a few matches under his belt. If there is a slight tweak to the wrist in his first match, then his participation in the US Open will be in serious jeopardy. If he manages to get a few wins under his belt at the pilot pen he should be okay to get through the first few rounds of the US open, until he meets a seed. If however he loses his first match in teh pilot pen then he could find himself in a tough first match against a qualifier who will be match hardened and already used to the court, so there's definitely a potential upset there.
