Andy Murray has decided that going to Shanghai as second reserve is not worth his time as he would rather have a break.
It has recently been hinted that Andy Roddick may pull out of the Masters Cup and instead focus his energy on helping his country win the Davis Cup but even if that were to happen, it would not be enough for the Scot to qualify.
The highest I can go is second alternate. I’m not going to go all the way over to Shanghai when it’s a time where I’m going to be taking a break, and I plan to start training really hard the week right after Shanghai.
But if I’m having to get ready for matches and obviously stay in great shape, because you’re going to be playing against one of the best players in the world I’d rather not go all the way over there and end up not playing a match. Two guys need to pull out. I’m not expecting that to happen.

Probably the best decision... can you imagine if Roddick pulled out and then Davydenko didn't want to do it due to a mental breakdown?

Think he might just be kicking himself. Can't see Daveydenko pulling out with all the oodles of cash on offer.God knows where his head is at,After he seemed to be getting "picked on"also Santoro put Roddick out in Lyon and he's really keen to help the USA win the Davis Cup,also he hasn't played much.so he'll be wanting a bit of match practice I do see where Andy gets his reasoning.Nalabanan won it two years ago,he was an altrnative beat Fed hopes history doesn't repeat itself.

What do you mean he might be kicking himself? You just said Davydenko wouldn't pull out. Murray would need two players to withdraw.

Wise decision I think - have a nice break and then start preparing for next season. Does anyone know where Andy is taking his break at the moment? and where he plans to do his training?

You my friend post like a girl.

Last year Andy spent some time at Brad's house in San Rafael and also two weeks in Florida at Nick Bollettieri’s tennis school. It would not surprise me if he done something similar this year to take advantage of the better weather in the US, with training at the national tennis centre in Roehampton when he is in the UK (we are always being told it is a state of the art facility so why not use it).

I believe he does a lot while he's in London. His flat's somewhere around there.

Chela is about 17 or something in the race. Seems a lot of guys think the way Andy does.
