Andy Murray has withdrawn from the Indianapolis Tennis Championships starting on Monday.

A spokesperson for Andy said:
Andy wants to take some rest and recharge his batteries before a very gruelling period including the Beijing Olympics.
Murray said:
I'm playing less tournaments after Wimbledon because I have to make sure I have enough rest days and am not burnt out by the time I get to the US Open. It's a tough stretch.
He next scheduled to play in the Masters Series event in Toronto starting on July 21st.

Take some rest ...
Think What's he been doing for the last couple of weeks, I wonder?

But yeah, let's hope the break is worth it and he performs well at the MSs. And the US.

I think he might be in trouble for this - you can't withdraw from a tourney without a valid reason, and I'm sure having a long period of consecutive tournaments coming up is not a good enough reason. They could force him to have a zero as one of his best 5 other tournaments for the next year because of this.

Let's be honest, Andy is taking a holiday with Kim which is fair enough and I suppose he has to give a bulls**t excuse otherwise the press would rip him apart.

Indianapolis isn't mandatory.  He doesn't need a serious excuse.

Indy is an MS, right, so it's mandatory? It's listed in the mandatory part of the Ranking points detail on the ATP site... confused

Its not mandatory, but, as has happened to a few players, if you withdraw late from a tournament without a proper excuse, e.g. a doctor's note, they give you a zero which you have to count in your ranking. By mandatory tourneys you anyway would get a zero...

Normally you can count your best 5 other results, now he might only be able to count 4, because the fifth will be zero, even if he has a good fifth.
Allan, is this not called late? The day before the draw? I'm not sure the rules, do you know them?

Why does he need to withdraw for extra rest? Huh? How many other top players have done this?
