ANDY MURRAY has been unveiled as a phone pest - and his stand-in coach could not be happier.

Leon Smith dropped everything to fly to Paris and help his former pupil Murray at this week's French Open.

Smith, 30, was asked by Murray's mother Judy to coach the youngster when he first showed promise at the Bridge of Allan Tennis and Sports Club near Dunblane.

And with Murray still to appoint a new full-time coach, Smith was asked to fill the gap for this week's Grand Slam event.

Smith said: I got the call on Sunday. I checked with Roger Draper and Jeremy Bates at the LTA and they just said 'get out there'.

Any time Andy wants help I will be there. You don't spend six or seven years of your life with one player and not care for their tennis.

Working with Andy again has been good. He has become more outgoing, has more energy and his self-esteem and self-confidence have grown.

He is also a practical joker - and I have been on the receiving end recently.

Heehee I rang my friends phone in the library today and it went off *really* loudly, with the most embarrassing ring tone in the world. Joy. Joyjoyjoy.

I'm always in so many places I wouldn't want my phone to go off in I just have it on vibrate all the time.

this is really nice to read .. it shows that andy is obviously woking really hard and that this temp coach has alot of faith in andy yeahhhh

Although from what has been said it seems like he's more like Andy's original mentor than a temp coach.

yeah i suppose , but he isnt going to be with him all the time i guess . murray is still looking for someone new
