New laptop
« on: April 18, 2008, 03:10:10 PM »
Mark - where should I be posting this?
I need a new laptop - does anyone have a Dell Vostro 1000 15 1/2-inch screen for small to medium businesses, and if so, how do you like it?

Who in their right mind would be running Vista? It's just another Windows Millenium Edition - a huge pile of sh*t.

You clearly haven't used them both if you would even think about mentioning them in the same sentence...

Comparing Vista to ME... it's just ridiculous.

The computers at school use Vista and I think it has some very clever upsides. But apparently it's taboo to say anything positive about it.
I just think it's a bit overpriced for what it's offering.

I have used both unfortunately but let me clarify, I wasn't comparing them interface/functionality wise, I was comparing them because they are both infamous for being sh*t, no one likes Vista and the reviews and press are very negative about it.

It's a real question mark why quite a few organisations have integrated it into their system, no? If no-one likes it.

Reviews and press are always negative about everything.
Though, I do agree that it's not appropriate for every computer as it made ours go a bit crazy (my dad got it for free at his school).

Some companies will simply upgrade to the latest Microsoft OS with the assumption that eventually everyone will use it anyway, like with XP. Unfortunately for them, Vista will not be like XP, it is another Windows ME - it will be used by very few and be left to rot.
It makes no sense to upgrade a business to Vista due to the high resources it requires which means potentially buying more hardware to run an OS that have very few, if any, benefits over XP for a business.

OK... well let me just say, I do like Vista... I don't see that it has that much advantage over XP, but I've found it pretty stable and secure.

Microsoft pushes people into it, especially with corporate and mass licences...

Vista worked fine for me too, doesn't mean it's appropriate for the general population

Push people into it? All new programmes brought onto the market are supposed to be promoted. If organisations don't want to work with Vista, they won't.

If any company decided to take on Vista then I would assume it would simply be based on ignorance rather than being pushed into it.
