Forgive Murray for x-rated rant
« on: April 10, 2006, 01:01:31 PM »
GREG RUSEDSKI today predicted Andy Murray will quickly learn his lesson following Great Britain's Davis Cup defeat to Serbia and Montenegro.
Britain were fined £1,400 for Murray's "unsportsman-like behaviour" during the weekend tie in Glasgow, which ended in a 3-2 defeat for the home side.
The British number one swore several times at umpire Adel Aref as he and Rusedski lost the doubles rubber on Saturday, and his outburst was picked up by television microphones.
But Rusedski has pleaded for everyone to maintain a sense of perspective.
You have to take into account he is 18 years old.
He's made a mistake at the end of the match, which all of us have.
He has already accomplished so much; he is going in the right direction but he's going to have a few difficult moments. He'll get over them and he learns from things.

He is 18, i do forgive him as he has been punished. But it was the correct decision. Greg's right saying let;s move on and continue to support andy.

Of course his fans will forgive him - as long as he learns!

the title is correct. He said f**king c**t after all. And that shouldn't have been said at all. It is a big deal, however, the big deal has been punished by a big (small for him) fine. So that's fine. (no pun intended).
As for telling people to shut up it;s not very polite.

Using words like that at an event where there are CHILDREN present is unacceptable.
I agree - some passion is way, way better than none at all - but, theres just no excuse for that.
Its exactly what the fine was given for 'unsporting' - theres just no need for it. He'd look like the much bigger man had he shaken the umpire's hand...
but hey, hes been fined, so like greg says, lets move on...

The thing is, this sort of thing comes up all the time. In almost every sport. And the problem is it starts off as as "foul mouthed murray!" then goes onto "murray will learn" then "murray says sorry" then "fans forgive murray" etc etc etc.
Some fans might talk about it which is fine, we are part of that fanbase, we can talk about it, but the media are definately the ones who fuel the debate!

But dont apologise for telling people to give him a break. You are very right, it is no big deal. We should be discussing about Monte Carlo and not about swear words.

Too much has been made of this! I wish the media would just get over it.
Fine, he's made a mistake, but I'd prefer him to remain firey and passionate than be the stereotypical reserved British person. Nobody's perfect, and I'm sure he'll learn from this. He's 18... unlike most other people our age he has to constantly watch what he says. It's very easy to forget where you are and come out with something in the heat of the moment.

I'm very disappointed in Andy, I really expected more from him than that. Nonetheless, who hasn't made such a stupid mistake? Everybody has. Unfortunately, his was in public and set on camera. I hope he'll learn from this and keep his anger to himself next time (and I pray there won't be a next time).
