God I hate politics!
Just seen a report on the news about
this
and I'm trying to work my head around it. But from what I just seen on the news is if you earn less than £18k and have no kids you getting the bad end of this. Wheres the fairness in that? Could any of this change in the elections soon or no?
Which is pretty much what i said last week remember
Well, the fairness comes in in that they are trying to help families basically. There's always going to be someone losing out. Also, regardless of what happens, all parties are likely to only introduce more measures for families not to help out the single people on low income. But although we are "worse off", it;s ato the tune of at worst £250 a year, or 50p a week... .... I don't know, I mean, Personally, if I never had the money in the first place, then it doesn't matter.
What I'm saying is, I let the tax take care of itself and work it out to make sure it's right at the end of the year.
The thing is, single people earning less than £18,000 don't tend to have as much fixed costs. Like housing cars etc. Nothing they need to pay every month that that extra money would make a difference. Usually that is. For myself, my money is just for spending on what I want.... so I can kinda see what the government is doing.

And another thing, how are single on low salaries meant to branch out on there own and get a mortage and pay bills when they are getting more tax taken off them? They'll be stuck in a trut then.

Well, even with an extra £250 a year, you ain't going to get on the housing market with such a small salary anyway. So it makes no difference at all.
And with an election.... anything is possible, depends what parties promise.

Actually, most people who earn less than 18k it's cause it's a part time job and second income. And actually that is the bracket that most single parents fall into so it's pretty much the opposite of no expenses.

Ok, second income, like my mum working x hours per week and earning less than £18k. True, she is worse off. BUT my dad who earns over £18k is better off, so overall, they are better off. So in terms of second income, the 2% reduction in the first earners tax should outweigh the loss of earnings in the second earner's tax in most cases.
And the government has increased tax credits anyway.
At the end of the day, their argument is MOST people will be better off. Which is probably true.
Other than that, you end up looking at individual cases etc etc.

I'm better off but find it absolutely aborant that they are taking from the have nots to give to the haves.

Petrol stations run dry as early buying begins
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/25/npipe225.xml
There was no diesel available in town today! I am wondering what companies like Tesco are going to do. Will they buy their fuel from the Continent? Will they bump all their product prices up by 20% to pay for it? Will they remember to reduce their prices by 20% when this thing is over? Why is there only one refinery? Will the Govt get off its derriere and introduce some refinery competition? B****y H**l ...........
Poor Britain...well not happening here yet Thank God.

Projected national vote share something like this... Conservative 44%, Lib Dem 25%, Labour 24%...
(At a general election that would be a pretty massive
landslide for the Conservatives...
)

Thats brilliant John!
Labour has had its wrost local elections since 1968! Yes, 1968! The Conservatives have made gains similar to Labour right before the 1997 Labour landslide election victory.
What a victory!
