I initially thought, Mark, that your post was suggesting Alex was an idiot (even though he can't vote in the UK).....on painful reflection, I realise this was not your intention and should have deleted my post. Please accept my most humble and sincere apologies and accept my offer of a manly hug.

Teachers reject 'Army propaganda'
Teachers have voted to oppose military recruitment activities in schools if they employ "misleading propaganda".
Young people must be given a true picture of Army life, not a "marketised version", the National Union of Teachers conference heard.
Extremely happy with this news!!!

Its not so simple, Mark. The army say they don't recruit, they just tell the students what life is like in the army.
Alex, by the way, it'd be almost impossible for someone to get something in to you at Singapore, because he'd have to get it through the security in Singapore. I haven't been to a single country, ever, even the States and Israel (which are notorious over the level of their security), which have x-rays when you enter the country.

What on earth are you on about? My previous post was just saying I was happy with the news, I made no further comment.

Yeah I know it's pretty unlikely. But what if he was an airport worker or a cleaner or something? Not saying it would actually happen, just saying it's possible I could have acquired something there, then get it through Heathrow without any trouble. I agree with X-rays before entering the country for this reason. You can never be too careful. It's always possible you picked up something after the check where you departed, or maybe even something was missed in that check (or perhaps it was somewhere dodgy and a $5 note slipped to the guard got it through). May aswell check just to be safe. No harm done.

I don't understand you, Mark. You said you were happy with the news, which means you disapproved of what the army were doing. To that i replied that its not so simple that what the army were doing was wrong.

What I don't understand is why you suggested I thought it was "so simple"? I said I was happy with the news but did not elaborate as to why and therefore your reply was not appropriate.

Tell us your reasoning then. I'd assume that if you don't say a reason its because you agree to the reason given in the article.

My argument to you was just based on principle, I didn't like your assumption of me.
However, my reasoning is indeed fairly simple, I don't like the idea of anyone that young being persuaded to join the Army especially when they would be deployed for a dishonorable cause.

Firstly, IN YOUR OPINION a dishonourable cause. A lot of people would argue, including me. I'm not saying the war in Iraq was carried out correctly, but it was definitely an honourable cause IMO.
Secondly, what used to happen was, some schools used to invite representatives of the armed forces to explain what life was like in the armed forces, and thats what they did! No recruiting at all!

They're only saying that they are against 'misleading propaganda'. What could possibly be wrong with that? Could lead to healthy discussion.
What was the honorable cause for the war in Iraq? The reasons I've heard was to get rid of imaginary weapons of mass destruction or that the US were after the oil?

1) if you read back my posts you'll see all i ever meant was its not so simple, and you should hear the other side of the story first, because they argue they weren't saying anything other then the truth about life in the army.
2) i feel its honourable because of the way Iraqis were being treated under the old regime. I never said i thought the way the war was carried out was correct, but i hold of the original decision to go to war. So i feel its honourable.

I'm sure the families of those innocent iraqi civilians killed would tell you different. In many places the country is more hostile and divided than it was before the war.

How can you agree with the war being started but not with the actual war and what has happened for the past five years?
