Players risk ban for withdrawals « on: August 31, 2007, 09:49:14 AM »

At the moment players are contracted to play the Masters Series events and if they pull out the worse they can expect is a fine, which means nothing to a millionaire.

If a player misses a tournament other than for a genuine injury he can expect to be banned from his most successful event the following season.

In other words he'll lose a stack of ranking points without a chance of defending them, hitting him where it hurts.

What do you think of these new plans? Sounds very good to me!

Thats stupid!!  The tennis season is stupidly long anyway.  I know its boring for us spectators when they aren't playing but the more they play the more they are likely to get injured anyway!  Grrr this pisses me off.

On what basis will they determine what is a genuine injury?

As long as there's anybody betting on you having an injury you should be okay.

What happens with family matters, like say a family death or a newborn?
