I thought the results of this week didn't effect next weeks seeding cause they were decided before Monday?

No, the rankings update on Monday and Miami draw is Tuesday or Wednesday so he will be 13th seed.

I haven't done the calculations yet, but it looks quite bad this week. Even if he reaches the R16, he'll probably fall out of the top 20. He also probably won't be seeded for at least the first clay masters series.

I've just been working out how radically Miami could affect Andy's ranking:

1) Its possible the player ranked 39 (in the coming weeks ranking) could catch up Andy!

2) The lowest Andy could fall is 28th, but he probably won't fall lower then 22nd even if he withdraws from the event completely.

3) The highest he could possibly rise is to 9th, but if he wins he probably would be 10th.

4) If I'd have to take a guess at his ranking after Miami, I'd say probably 22nd. I'm assuming he'll reach the R16.

I really really hope he goes further than that. What'll he need to stay top 16? Defend his points? Or would a QF do it?

Re: Ranking next week... « Reply #1826 on: March 21, 2008, 01:34:41 PM »

This is what I would predict:
if he reaches the R16, 22nd
if he reaches the QF, 20th
if he reaches the SF, 13th

all the predictions are based on all players reaching where they'll be seeded to reach.
I'll make in the next couple of days a proper analysis, but at the moment there are players still involved in this weeks tourneys, so I won't just yet.

That makes sense. Too much guesswork when it's like that. So he really needs to defend his points. I'm sure he knows that. He said at least once in his last interview that this week'd be big for him.

Andy should be ranked 13th come Monday.

Possibilities for the rankings after Miami:

If Andy withdraws, loses in the R64, or loses in the R32:
Possibilities: 22-27
Probable: 22

If Andy loses in the R16:
Possibilities: 20-26
Probable: 22

If Andy loses in the QF:
Possibilities: 14-25
Probable: 20

If Andy loses in the SF:
Possibilities: 11-21
Probable: 13

If Andy loses in the F:
Possibilities: 11-14
Probable: 11

If Andy wins the tournament:
Possibilities: 9-12
Probable: 10

It's not actually as bad as I thought it was gonna be. If we can get through the week still in the top 20 that'll be great. I really believe he has the ability to have a big week here though. I mean, look at Mardy Fish. Look at his 1st serve % last week. It felt like I was watching Andy last night. He's due his turn and if he can get it to all work at the same time it'll be amazing!

Thats his problem though, getting it to work at the same time, it just doesnt happen when its Murray  Not yet anyway.  But your right, he is due his turn.  Tsonga did it at AO, Mardy did it last week

Murray will eventually come good but he needs a coach to show him that raw potential alone doesnt make u a top 5 player. If he finishes in the top 8 or 10 by the end of the year i think he will have what to build on come next year and look back and learn from this years mistakes.

He will definately be able to build on this years mistakes. R1 in Aus and R4 in IW. Now there's some points he can improve on!

However bad Murray does, there's always someone who says "Next year he can gain points from it"... yawn

Yawn at me all you like Mark but how much have we gone on about the empty run up to the US Open on the last few weeks. And how much were we devistated by that injury spell last year.

Just goes to show just how much of a joke it is to follow the entry ranking from week to week. Far better to look at three months of results at one go. I mean, Andy didn't get into the top 8 after 2 MS semis in March but did after 2 months out the week of Wimbledon. Ranking means Jack! Djokovic is most certainly the best player in the world this week. But he mathmatically can't be number one till after Wimbledon!

Maybe he should hire Rusedski or Sampras to work on his serve  w00t, from what I can see that is his main downfall, he can sometimes pull through matches when it's not going right but when his serve percentage is up he's unstoppable.  I don't play tennis so I couldn't even guess why he can do it great sometimes and not others.
