STAGE 2!! Public vote - (deadline: Tuesday) « on: January 06, 2008, 06:50:14 PM »

Should we limit or prevent people doing predictions for other members?

The organisers and I have been discussing this for a while and as we can't easily come to a decision on it so it's probably better this goes to public vote. I advise you read this thread to hear the arguments before you vote but with this poll you are free to change your vote until the deadline anyway.

EDIT: The poll options were changed for more accuracy. If "No" wins then a new poll will follow asking whether there should be a limit, after that there may then be one final poll.

Deadline: Monday 7th - 08:27PM GMT

EDIT 2: People voted "no" and therefore stage two of the poll has commenced. Voting closes: January 08, 2008, 11:01:33 PM

No you shouldn't limit people doing predictions for other members. If a member has txt/pm or requested predictions to be made on the board, then they should be made. It's only if in the case of yesterday, where someone does predictions for a regular just because they are not here that it should not be allowed.

If you are worried about any sort of foul play, then any member who plans on making predictions should state their intentions.

I.e. 1) "I want to make standard predictions for every match this week while i;m on holiday"

2) I'm on holiday so will be txtin member "namehere" to post my scores each day

Or something similar. Smile

I don't see anything wrong with asking someone else to post for you if you are away...

I think it should be banned because,

1) People with friends have an advantage over those who do not. So new users are disadvantaged.

2) People may still do them for their friends regardless of whether the member made the prediction or even asked for it to happen. But then again, we could require the poster give a heads up before their break I suppose.

3) I don't think this sort of thing is allowed in any other forum type game and there probably is good reason for that.

Yeah no 2) is covered by people posting prior to the thing.

You could say that standard predictions are only allowed in only 3/4 tournaments a year..... Have to keep track of it though. Cause people do go on holiday and some people don't.

Kind of agree with you on 1) actually thinking about it. Because it does then make it an old school friendly game.

Lol, it's toughie. Because last week with julia posting predictions for someone when she wasn't asked to... I mean, i'd happily do it if Cate or someone sent me a txt, but I would never do it off my own back, cause why would I want someone elses predictions to be posted! I;d just be helping myself lose lol

I might change my vote.....

I think you should be allowed standard predictions for 4 tournaments a year, no predictions via a friend, and standard predictions have to be made for the whole tournament. i.e. No 1 seed beats no 2 in str8 sets. etc etc.

I think it should be allowed.  Perhaps making another thread to post in to say whether you want standard predictions for a certain week if you where to miss it.

That's just extra threads. You may as well post in the tournament thread "This Week: "

And are you saying friends should be allowed, or standard predictions.

I'm with Amy Smile I think it should be completely allowed as long as that person notifies on the board or by text/phone/email/message in a bottle in which case the person asked would put a note up saying they will be predicting for that individual.

These deadlines become really hard to fit into when the summer exams come around and holidays.

Well, if you posted that you wanted standard predictions in the "This Week" thread like you say, then the mods can see it there and account for it so you won't need friends to post it.  Although this is probably more work for the mods but if they don't mind doing it I don't see the problem.
