I was sat by a bloke during the Federer/Tipsarevic match and as soon as the toss was made he left and somehow made a bet on the score in the 1st set.

He lost as it went to a tie-break but he bet for a 6-3/6-4 depending on who won the toss.

That makes sense. I don't suppose you can stop people doing that.

I wouldn't of thought so. My guess is he made a bet via phone about 30 seconds after the live toss.

Actually thinking about it, he probably made the call has he was walking out of Rod Laver so it was just a few seconds after the toss.

Em, good luck then although I thought it would be better if he preserved his health for the clay-court season. Frown

Yet another Italian banned

Federico Luzzi has become the fifth Italian tennis player to be banned by the ATP for betting on matches.
The world number 139, who plays mainly on the challenger circuit, was found guilty of gambling on 836 matches.

Luzzi, 28, has been suspended for 200 days and fined US$500,000.

I saw it on the news.  Although they started the report by saying "Hingis who was been from the game after being tested positive for coccaine is playing at the Liverpool exhibition this year ...."  What a way to advertise it Rolling Eyes

Well well - I hadn't realised there was going to be a clash ......... think you are right, more people will do the same.  The US Open is always at the end of August and into the beginning of September taking in Labor Day - the players would hardly have a chance to get back from China and get over their jet lag and get some practise in etc .......
