I said this months ago and got shot down. I said I thought Andy should give it a miss. Seems I'm not the only one who thinks this could give a huge advantage in the US.

Federer has also said (I posted previously) that he may give the Olympics a miss.

Here's the thread

Seems it wasn't a completely ridiculous idea after all. Seeing as Federer and Roddick seem to agree with me. We'll see how many more top names do by the time summer comes...

It's not on his official schedule. But then it goes straight from Wimbly to Toronto so I'd assume it's incomplete for that section.

What surface will Beijing be on?

Hopefully indoor. Don't want to be exposed to all the pollution.

Edit: it's outdoor hardcourt. Looks very similar to the us courts.

Yeah, outdoor hardcourt.

... and it turns out it's decoturf, so presumably they can market it as a good warmup for the US Open lmao.

Theres a good article on Guardian.co.uk dated 13 March about Andys knee problems, the reporter says that there are x-rays available to prove that he wasn't lying about his knee before DC.

Didn't I just read something today about him going to lug around some electronic equipment to stimulate 're-growth' in his knee cap.  I'm trying to think what the equipment is called and it escapes me.

Yes, that's mentioned in the article, it cost £1000 and he has to wear it for 20mins a day for the next 150 days.  It's to try and bring the gap between the 2 sections of his knee together abit.

Yes - that's it.  Well, let's hope he has some success with it.

Closing on No 1 « Reply #53 on: March 13, 2008, 10:17:38 PM »

CLOSING ON NO. 1?
Federer's lead has dwindled to 350 points going into Indian Wells with Nadal and Djokovic in pursuit. This is the closest margin since May 10, 2004 when Federer led No. 2 Andy Roddick by that same figure. But Federer could build the lead in March since he lost early in Indian Wells and Miami last year while Nadal won Indian Wells and Djokovic reached the final in Indian Wells and won the title in Miami. The No. 1 ranking can't change hands at the Pacific Life Open since Nadal is defending title points (500) while Federer lost in the opening round (5). But depending on the results of both players in Indian Wells, then the No. 1 position could be up for grabs going into Miami. Nadal has quarterfinal points to defend (125) while Federer has fourth round points coming off (75). Federer has ranked a record 215 consecutive weeks at No. 1 since Feb. 2, 2004 while Nadal has been No. 2 a record 138 straight weeks (since July 25, 2005).

This forum does odd things from time to time - last night when I posted this, the subject/heading was 'CLOSING ON NO 1' and this was showing in the Index - today that subject/heading has disappeared to be replaced with News Article General Tennis or something equally blah  Eyebrow raise.  How does this happen - Gremlins in the system ?

The topics original name or subject is "News articles (General Tennis)". While a user can change the subject of an individual post to a new name, and it will appear in the index, this is changed back when a reply is made to the topic to the original title unless you again change it to what you want. Hope that makes sense (and hope that's right)

Murray, please get rid of the yes-men.

Indeed, it wouldn't be very good if someone other than the topic starter could change the title of the thread.

Seems you've just popped it in the wrong thread. Cause Closing in on No 1 thread does exist...(well actually it's battle for no 1)

I understand what you say but don't understand the logic of the topic returning to tis original title because a reply has been made ?
