Gosh .... How come it's Christmas Eve already? Shock

Think Must remember to nip out at lunch time today and buy a card for the missus ...
... otherwise I might have run out of time.

And I suppose we should get an extra day's food in (even the 24 hour Tesco is closed for the 25th). Otherwise we'll have live for an entire day on Cadbury's Roses.

Going away with the girlfriend and her family tomorrow to their bach (holiday home). It's going to be 2-3 hours driving which I'm not really looking forward to (no idea how long I'll want to be up there, plus she has to be back for work before the parents so it's best if I drive as well so I/we can come home whenever we want).
So hope everybody here has a happy holiday/new year. I won't be on for probably at least a week, maybe more if I'm away longer. My fellow gooner mate is on football result/news texting duty as always when I go away. Hope to return home still well in the title race. Worked out I'm going to miss probably 3 games, 4 at the most.

Thanks. It will be a pretty shattering day. 45 minute drive to pick her up from her Dad's place (seeing Dad's family in the morning). Roughly half an hour or so from there onto an Aunt's place for mother's family Xmas lunch, then onto the bach, which is 1-2 hours from there. Hope my car is up to the task. And I also hope I can do it on 1 tank of petrol which I filled up this afternoon. Jeremy Clarkson went from London to Edinburgh and back on 1 tank so I should be ok. lol

Or, I should have at least found a girl who has learnt to drive! She has cost me an absolute fortune in petrol, especially when she's at her Dad's place. no

I just think it's a bit disrespectful to take away "Christ" from "Christmas" when it's the entire meaning behind the occasion. It's like thinking of Christmas purely from the commercial and materialistic side of things and forgetting the true meaning.

Re: The CHRISTMAS thread! « Reply #523 on: December 24, 2007, 11:41:05 PM »

But I'm not christian and don't believe in the traditional values behind the time of year and rather have grown up with the more modern non christian values of family, friendship and good times. So I shall call it Xmas if I like. If that's ok with you.

Contrary to your point, in fact, I feel it's MORE hypocritical to remember this time of year for the "true meaning" and indeed to call is "Christmas" when you are in fact not a Christian. Your come back to this may be "Why do you celebrate it at all" and I confess I do, but that's partly due to my upbringing. Hard not to celebrate and do anything at this time of year when everyone around you is. It's more about the opportunity for holiday time. It is a national time off work for a start, and it's always an excuse to have fun anyway.

By the way, Xmas is actually just an abbreviation for Christmas. The letter X is short for Chi in Latin (or maybe Greek, i can't remember).

Anyway, a merry Christmas to everyone who's as sad as me, and's online now!
