Do they not have some kind of pet insurance over there that would make it cheaper?

They do have pet insurance but I don't think breakages are covered - had cats most of my life, and never had a broken leg on one of them!  Dog yes, but not a cat.

So the person who said your cat would need her leg chopped off was wrong?

They couriered xrays to a more specialised vet in a town not too far away - he said that the leg could be saved and he came over and performed the surgery.

So you asked the original vet to get a second a opinion? Or your vet volunteered to send them off to this other vet?

When we got the news that they might have to amputate, we were obviously in shock and didn't want to make a decision straight away, so she offered to look at other vets in the area - the one she normally speaks with was away, so she had to look further afield.

Thanks Al!  She's confined to a cage for 6 weeks shocking  No running or jumping, no walking on slippery surfaces, tablets in a morning and night (oh what joy that is!) and I have to drug up her food at a night time too doctor

Anyway, the last thing I paid for today was the hairdresser and I conveniently had forgotten my bank card Whistle  Luckily I had my other bank card where just the hubby's wages goes in to cmon yeah
