I originally placed a bet with webmaster Mark.  The bet in question?  £10 Andy Murray will not make it into the final of any of the upcoming eight Grand Slams (ie. through to AO 2008).  I think you can guess (or bet) who thinks Murray will make it

The bet has now been extended to anyone who is willing to put their money where their mouth is.  The bet itself has also changed to account for Grand Slams he's missed, so the bet should finish by Wimbledon 2008.

I think he might reach the final of Roland Garros 2007 because he said he plays best on clay courts. I dont think 2006 because like Petchy said this is going to be a tough year for him.

Pity. I would bet the 2008 US Open (It's the Slam I think Andy has the best chance at).

 Wimbledon and Roland Garros??? Nah, cant see it, too much variety and depth in the S. American and Mediterranean clay courters. Wimbledon will be increasingly difficult as they try and plant different grass and different pressured balls to slow the courts down in uniformity with the rest of the tournies.

But you haven't accounted for The 2008 US Open and I'm a complete non-gambler (never bought a lottery ticket even ) so it doesn't matter  

hell reach a final eventually whether it be 2006, 2007, 2008 or even 2009, 10 or 11. have a little faith people. hell do it when hes ready.

I think 2006/7 is to early   ..yes it's not exactly that optimistical but i can't see it.. of course i do hope i'm wrong!!
I'm going to say earliest.. 2008 US Open.
Im not mentioning Wimbly or RG for the simple fact that these are huge favorites - and there's to much new telent.. and to many players with new tactics and ideas. I think with those 2 tournaments, luck is quite a hugr factor...
because there's the Spanish as clay favorites.. and then the newbies fighting it out for Wimbledon. I see Andy being succesful at the US Open.. once Roddick has cooled it down with his fans.

I don't think anyone can really say "he will make a final for sure." He might make a final, or he may well not make a final. Tim Henman has never made one despite 4 Wimbledon semi finals, and numourous quater finals and both US Open and French semis, never a final. But Greg Rusedski, nowhere near the player Henman was at his best has made a grand slam final, so you never know.  I personally feel that if Murray has half the career Henman had, then he wouldn't have done too badly, Henman gets a lot of underserved criticism in my opinion.

At the moment, I can't see Murray becoming one of the top players, as there are a number of players of a similar age who are vastly superior (see my post above) but the fact is, noone knows. He is on a similar level Roger Federer was at this age, and who would've thought Federer would become the player he is, so you really never know.

What is most disappointing for me is not the fact that Murray is losing more than winning at the moment, but that there is noone else. We (Great Britain) cannot seem to produce 1 other good player, despite the large population. It doesn't make sense. There was only Henman who was a top player for years with Rusedski (not really produced by Britain) as a decent player for a few years. Is there anyone else coming through at the moment? or is it only likely to be Murray for the next 10 years?

And when was the last time we had a half decent woman? Sue Barker? I had a look at the British girl in the junior aussie open when I had a look round some of the outside courts last week, she was pretty average and got thrashed something like 6-1 6-0 in the first round.

Maybe some of you have also been annoyed like me that Cyprus, population of 800,000 has had a guy in a grand slam final but we don't look like having anyone reach that height any time soon.
